外文翻译原文Proceedingsofthe7thICFDM2006InternationalConferenceonFrontiersofDesignandManufacturingJune1922,2006,Guangzhou,ChinaTHESWAGINGTECHNOLOGYUSEDINSHAFTCLINCHINGASSEMBLYFORAUTOMOTIVEHUBBEARINGUNITXiaoYunya1,2,ZhouZhixiong1andLvJianmin31CollegeofMechanicalandAutomotiveEngineering,HunanUniversity,China2DepartmentofElectromechanicalEngineering,ShaoguanUniversity,China3ShaoguanSoutheastBearingCo.,Ltd.,ChinaAbstractRecently,shaftendclinchingisbeingadoptedinthehubbearingunitassembly,whichwillraiseastechnologicaltrendandgraduallyreplaceclampnutinfuture.Inamachinereconstructedfromlathe,thesampleofshaftendclinchedhubunitissuccessfullymanufacturedbyswagingtechnologywithgivenparameters.Sometestsconfirmthattheshaftendclinchinghubunithasfunctionsgreaterthanthetraditionalhubunitwithclampnut.Intheend,thefutureapplicationandthefurtherresearchdirectionoftheswagingtechnologyarediscussed.KeyWordshubbearingunit,swaging,shaftclinching,assemblyHubunitbearingsarewidelybeingadoptedforcarsastheyarelighterandstrongerandeasilytomounting.Inthehubbearingunitassembly,theshaftclinchingtighteningreplacesclampnutandbecomestechnologicaltrend.Itisadoptedinthemostlyfamousinternationalcompaniesofbearingmanufacture.However,thedeformationoftheworkpieceinclinchingprocessiscomplexanddifficulttobecontrolled.Itbringsphenomenonssuchasdistortionofstructureintheconnectingarea,shortageofsupportingrigidity,inadequacyofstrength,disqualificationofrotationalaccuracyandlackoflife.Thusleadsthehubunittoinvalidationeasily.Uptonow,theswagingtechnologyusedinshaftclinchingforhubunitisnotwellmastered.Withthesupportfromsomecorporations,thepilotstudyoftheswagingtechnologyiscompleted.Theproblemsfromtechnicsandequipmentofclinchingaresolved,andthesampleofswagededgeofhubbearingunitismanufacturedsuccessfully.1.IntroductionHubbearingunitisassembledfromseveralcomponents,whichispreadjustedandlubricatedforlife.Theunitwasoriginallydesignedforuseincarsandtruckstoreplacethetraditionaltaperrollerbearings,whichisreadytoinstallandfreemaintenance.Withthehubbearingunitsnotonlythenumberofparts,butalsotheoverallweightofthewheelarrangementisreduced.Theyalsoreduceassemblytimebecausetheydonotrequireanyspecialadjustment.Eachunitisselfcontainedandreadytobeboltedinplace.ThiskindofbearinghascomethroughthreegenerationssinceitwasdesignedbySKFin1938.The4thgenerationhubunitisnowunderdevelopmentthoughithasnotyetbeenmassproduced.Figure1illustratesthestructureofhubbearingunits3.The1stgenerationhubbearingunitiscomposedoftwosinglerowbearingswiththeirouterringsintegrated,wheregreaseisfilledwithseals.Comparedwiththe1stgeneration,the2ndgenerationhubbearingunitismuchmorelightweightandminiaturization,whichhasintegratedflangeintotheouterringof1stgenerationwheelbearing.The3rdgenerationhubbearingunitisanadvancedtypeof2ndgeneration,whichtheoutboardinnerringoftheinnerringrotationtypehubunitandhubshaftareintegrated.Inthisgenerationhubunit,numberofbuiltinhighperformancesensortypehasincreased.2Figure.1HubunitbearingsTofurtherreducetheweightandsizeofthehubbearingunitandimproveitsreliability,NSKhasrecentlydevelopedanovelshaftendclinchinghubunit.Inthenewhubdesign,theclampnutwhichfastenstheinnerandouterringstogetherisreplacedwithaswagededge.Theswagingthatusedinshaftclinchingisatechniquethatdeformstheendpartofhubshaftbyswagingforginginwhichinboardofinnerringandpropershaftforcebythisdeformation.Figure2showsexamplesof3rdgenerationtypeclinchedshafthubunitsforadrivenwheelanddrivewheelrespectively.Inaddition,thistechniqueisalsoapplicabletotheinnerringrotationtype2ndgenerationhubunits2.drivenwheeldrivewheelFigure2ShaftclinchinghubunitThereareseveraladvantagesoftheswagedhubunitincomparisontoconventionalretainingnutassemblies.Thenutissavedintheswagedhubunit.Theswagedhubunitssizeissmallerandweightislessthantheconventionalretainingnutassemblies.Thestructureoftheunitbecomescompact.Andthevehiclefuelconsumptionisreduced1.Theclampingforcecanbecontrolledaccuratelyduringtheswagingprocess.Thentheeffectoferrorfrompartsisavoided.Thefluctuationofpreadjustedforceisreducedgreatly.Aseveryhubunitgainsthebestpreadjustedforceafterassembly,thelifeofbearingunitcanbeextended.Theclinchingtighteningisanunreversibleassembly.Theassemblyisnotfailurethoughthevibrationcausedfromrunningprocessisbeenloadedonthehubunit.Theshaftclinchingprocessiscapabletoperfectlycomplywiththeproblemoflooseningoftighteningthatwasimpossibletobesolvedforthenuttightening.Thentheshaftclinchingimprovesthereliabilityandsafetyoftheproductgreatly.Thistechnologyenablesresourceandenergyofthemanufactureofhubbearingunittobesaved.Duetopredigesttheassemblyprocess,thecostofthewholevehicleisfurtherreduced.2.ProcessandExperimentTheswagingprocessisanappliedrockingdieforging.Figure3illustratestheprincipleoftherockingdieforging3.Onthecenterpointofaworkpiece,theaxisOYofaconicalupperdie,whichistitledbyanangleαfromthecenterlineOXofthework,isturnedabouttheOXaxis.Thisgivesrockingmotiontotheupperdie,andtheworkpieceiscontinuouslyformedastheupperdiecontinuestherockingrotation.Themotionsneededbytheshapingprinciplecanbeachievedfromalathe.AsFigure4showing,arollingheadisfixedontheendofthelatheshaft.Theheadistiltedanangleαfromthecenterlineofworkpieceandselfrotating.Theworkpieceisfixedontheworktablerestructuredfromthetowboardwhichisdrivedbyhydraulicpressure.Duringtherollingprocesswhilethetiltedrollingheadisrotatedonthebearingassembly,theshaftendoftheflangedinnerringworkpiecewillreceiveapressureprovidedfromhydraulicdrivingworktableandyieldplasticdeformationuntilitisfirmlyfixedtothe
