(yes, people are retiring even in this economy.)in both good times and bad, staff-turnover creates more openings than economic growth does. even in june of 2014, when the economy was still booming along, job growth was only 132,000, while staff-turn over was 4.7 million!and as it turns out, even todaywith job growth near zeroover 4 million job hunters are being hired every month.i dont mean to imply that overall job growth doesnt have an impact on ones ability to land a job. its true that if total employment were higher, it would mean more jobs for all of us to choose from(and compete for). and its true that there are currently more people applying for each available job opening, regardless of whether its a new one or not.but what often distinguishes those who land jobs from those who dont is their ability to stay motivated. theyre willing to do the hard work of identifying their valuable skills; be creative about where and how to look;learn how to present themselves to potential employers; and keep going, even after repeated rejections. the bureau of labor statistics data show that 2.7 million people who wanted and were available for work hadnt hunted for it within the last four weeks and were no longer even classified as unemployed.so dont let the headlines fool you into giving upfour million people get hired every month in the u.s. you can be one of them.( )24. the author tends to believe that high unemployment rate_. a. takes job opportunities from people b. prevents many people from changing careers c. does not mean the u.s. economy is worsening d. should not stop people from looking for a job( )25. what does the author say about overall job growth? a. it increases peoples confidence in the economy. b. it doesnt have much effect on individual job seekers. c. it gives a ray of hope to the unemployed. d. it doesnt mean greater job security for the employed.( )26. what is the key to finding a job according to the author? a. education. b. intelligence. c. experience d. persistence.( )27. what do we learn about the bureau of labor statistics unemployment data? athey clearly indicate how healthy the economy is. bthey dont include those who have stopped looking for a job. cthey provide the public with the latest information.:dthey warn of the structural problems in the economy.cgrownups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since. a man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he gets back in the water. he can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. he can play catch and hit a ball as well as his son. a mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins “twinkle, twinkle, little star” or remember the story of cinderella or goldilocks and the three bears.one explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows:once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it.in childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing baseball long after we have learned them. we continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as “twinkle, twinkle, little star” and childhood tales such as cinderella and goldilocks. we not only learn but overlearn.the multiplication tables(乘法口诀表) are an exception to the general rule that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood.the law of overlearning explains why cramming(突击学习) for an examination, though it may result in a passing grade,is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. by cramming,a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. a little overlearning,on the other hand,is really necessary for ones future development.( )28what is the main idea of paragraph 1?apeople remember well what they learned in childhood.bchildren have a better memory than grownups.cpoem reading is a good way to learn words.dstories for children are easy to remember.( )29the author explains the law of overlearning by_apresenting research findings bsetting down general rulescmaking a comparison dusing examples( )30according to the author, being able to use multiplication tables is_aa result of overlearning ba special case of crammingca skill to deal with math problems da basic step towards advanced studies( )31what is the authors opinion on cramming?ait leads to failure in college exams.bits helpful only in a limited way.cits possible to result in poor memory.dit increases students learning interest.dwhat is the first thing you notice when you walk into a shop? the products displayed (展示) at the entrance? or the soft background music?but have you ever noticed the smell? unless it is bad, the answer is likely to be no. but while a shops scent(香味) may not be outstanding compared with sights and sounds, it is certainly there. and it is proving to be an increasingly powerful tool in encouraging people to purchase.a brand store has become famous for its distinctive scent which floats through the fairly dark hall and out to the entrance, via scent machines. a smell may be attractive but it may not just be used for freshening air. one sports goods company once reported that when it first introduced scent into its stores, customers intention to purchase increased by 80 percent.when it comes to the best shopping streets in paris, scent is just as important to a brands success as the quality of its window displays and goods on sale. that is mainly because shopping is a very different experience to what it used to be.some years ago,the focus for brand name shopping was on a few people with sales assistants disproving attitude and donttouchwhatyoucantafford displays. now the rise of electronic commerce (ecommerce) has opened up famous brands to a wider audience. but while eshops can use sights and sounds, only bricksandmortar stores (实体店) can offer a full experience from the minute customers step through the door to the moment they leave. another brand store seeks to be much more than a shop, but rather a destination. and scent is just one way to achieve this.now, a famous store uses complex manmade smell to make sure that the soft scent of baby powder floats through the kid department, and coconut (椰子) scent in the swimsuit section. a department store has even opened a new lab, inviting customers on a journey into the stores windows to smell books, pots and drawers, in search of their perfect scent.( )32. according to the passage, what is an increasingly powerful tool in the success of some brand stores?a. friendly assistants. b. unique scents.c. soft background music. d. attractive window display.( )33. eshops are mentioned in the passage to_.a. show the advantages of bricksandmortar storesb. urge shop assistants to change their attitudec. push stores to use sights and soundsd. introduce the rise of ecommerce( )34. the underlined word “destination” in paragraph 5 means _.a. a platform that exhibits goodsb. a spot where travelers like to stayca place where customers love to god. a target that a store expects to meet( )35. the main purpose of the passage is to_.a. compare and evaluate b. examine and assessc. argue and discuss dinform and explain第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项有两项多余。tips for our
