My First BandI was very sensitive to music. Just dipping into the music books briefly, I could sing or play well. To be honest, I always dreamt of becoming a famous folk actor. I was so confident that I never decreased my devotion.I formed my first band called “Rolling Frog”. At the beginning, we relied on performing on instruments in pubs or to passersby to earn extra money in cash. Then we wore false beards to pretend to be the musicians whom people were familiar with. In addition, we attached humorous acts to our performances and played jokes on each other. Soon, our “funny jazz” became famous and invitations to perform for broadcast stations began to come. Afterwards, we sorted out attractive music and made a record in a studio. A million or so copies were sold and we became millionaires. It was painful that the band broke up finally. But above all, I realized my dream to be a musician. One day, a boy was playing in a garden. From the little path beside the school, wed climb down to the old railway tunnel (隧道) that had gone dark many years before. The complete darkness was terrifying and mysterious. We would leave our backpacks at the edge of the tunnel, knowing that they would be good landmarks when we returned. When we first started going down into the tunnel, we didnt do so with any particular purpose. We just liked going to this place that everyone else was too afraid to visit. After a few such visits, though, we started to look more into the history of the area. Our history teacher directed us to some books at the public library. We learned that this railroad used to be a very busy one, shipping goods from the western states to New York City.History is everywhere in New Jersey. Our history teacher told us that our town had been settled by Dutch traders four centuries earlier. But the Lenape tribes (部落) had already been living there for many thousands of years. In fact, in the early seventeenth century, when the Dutch arrived, the Lenape were one of the most powerful tribes in the area. The Dutch settlers were cruel in their conquest (征服) of the area, but they held on to many Lenape names, such as Manhattan, Raritan, and Tappan. The area looks so much different now, but the Lenape influence is still undoubtedly there. The history lesson enriched our trips around the secret part of the city. As we knew more about what had happened in our city, we were invited to give reports to our classmates and teachers. A_special_interest goes a long way: you never know what youll find in a place that people have forgotten for many years. 1The author and his friends first visits to the tunnel were _.Aterrible BaimlessCdisappointing Ddangerous解析:选B细节理解题。根据第二段中的“When we first started going down into the tunnel, we didnt do so with any particular purpose.” 2The authors history teacher _.Aentered the tunnel with himBlent him some books on historyCwas in support of his tunnel tripsDworried about his going to the railroad解析:选C推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Our history teacher directed us to some books at the public library”和第三段中的“Our history teacher told us .” 3According to the text, the Dutch _.Atook the Lenapes landBchanged many place namesCleft New Jersey in the 17th centuryDwere deeply influenced by the Lenape解析:选A细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The Dutch settlers were cruel in their conquest (征服) of the area”可知,荷兰人占领了德拉瓦族的领土。4What would be the best title for the text?AMy history teachers storyBThe railroad to New YorkCNew Jerseys secretsDA tunnel to history解析:选D标题归纳题。 In 2001, there was a famous movie _1_ (name) Harry Potter, _2_ turned out to be the most popular magical movie all over the world. So we asked for the bill, expecting we wouldnt have to pay for my husbands meal. Nobody came. After 15 minutes, I asked to see the manager. The head waiter told us that you were on holiday. At last, I was forced to pay $65 instead of $34 just for mine.Today I really want you to know about these unfortunate incidents.
