While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason this happens is because the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart, crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. You wont feel any immediate effects, but if you sit for long periods of time its important that you shouldnt have your legs crossed for more than 15 minutes, and its important that you get up and walk around at least once every hour.Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. Ideally, its best for our bodies to sit with our feet planted flat, hip width apart, on the floor. When you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, which can cause one of your pelvic bones(盆骨) to rotate. Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine(脊椎), this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck. When you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs get painful. This is because when one leg sits on top of the other it causes pressure on the veins and nerves in your legs and feet. It can cause numbness and/or temporary paralysis(瘫痪) in the legs, ankles, or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.1. Which of the positions is the most ideal to keep healthy?A. Sit for a whole night while changing the crossing leg frequently.B. Keep both of the feet flat and wide apart on the land.C. Rest one foot on the other for less than 15 minus.D. Put down the crossing feet immediate legs get numb.2. According to the passage, which of the following may a crossing-leg addict suffer?A. A sudden blood pressure increase.B. A twisted neck and spine.C. Permanent injuries to nerveD. Losing the ability to walk forever.3. Whats the main idea of the passage?A. Ways to keep a right sitting position.B. Tips to lower pressure to veins and nerve.C. The health problems crossing legs will lead to.D. Relation between habits and health problems.【答案】1. B 2. D 3. A chart that can be stuck to the back of the smartphone is then used by the speaker to determine which eye movements to make in order to communicate. The sticker shows four grids of letters, which each correspond to a different eye movement. The first alert my husband, Jimmy, 67, and I, 65, got came around 9 p.m., from some scrolling text on the TV Jimmy was watching. He ran upstairs to find me in our third-floor bedroom, and we changed the channel from the presidential primary debate I had been watching to our local Pensacola, Florida, station. No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado that it was on top of us. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard. The bones of the house shook, and the power went out. The wind began to roar through the house, most likely through blown-out windows and the door to our garage. We had three flights of steps to navigate to get to the relative safety of the first floor, because the cupboard down there is underneath a brick staircase.I didnt know how or if we would make it down the steps. It felt as if there were no floor underneath me as the wind lifted me off my feet. I tried to move forward, but this intense pressure held me in place. As we reached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out. Pieces of glass that looked like crushed ice flew everywhere. Suddenly, a three-foot-long tree branch crashed into the door frame. It flew over our heads, missing us by inches. Had we been one step up, it would have hit us.By the time I reached the cupboard, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the cupboard floor, but he couldnt get inside himself because of the wind. I held Jimmys arm and tried to bring Jimmy with it. My knees were full of glass, but at that moment, I felt no pain. If I had let go, Jimmy would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay.All of a sudden, Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies. I thought he was gone. And then everything stopped. He landed on his feet. In those first quiet moments, I couldnt believe it was over. Jimmy said hed go outside to check. No, I said. Dont leave me. Dont leave me.Our neighbor says the storm lasted four minutes. In that time, four of the twelve town houses in our unit were completely destroyed. Of the houses left standing, ours suffered the most damage. Amazingly, none of us were severely injured.7. What does the underlined word coverage in paragraph 2 mean?A. power B. descriptionC. arrival D. delay8. Which of the following sentences is NOT true about the passage?A. There was not any symbol of the tornados coming.B. A three-foot-long tree branch hit the couple.C. Both of the couple couldnt get into the cupboard floor.D. Jimmy didnt fly right out the back of the house.9. Why didnt the wife feel pain?A. Because she didnt get any hurt when the storm hit.B. Because she was too scared to feel pain.C. Because she devoted all her strength to holding on to her husband.D. Because she had reached the cupboard and she was safe.10. It can be inferred from the text that _.A. a presidential election was going on at that time.B. it was the most severe tornado in Florida.C.
