UDC 692-112.W.6 DEUTSCHE NORM May 1984 DIN Modular coordination in building 18 O00 Modulordnung im Bauwesen 1 Field of application This standard applies to the design and construction of buildings and to the design and production of building components and semi-finished building products. 2 Scope Modular coordination serves to coordinate sizes in building. 3 Geometrical specifications 3.1 Coordinating system A coordinating system consists of planes arranged at right angles to each other, the distances between such planes being coordinating dimensions. The coordinating spaces of buildings, building components and spaces are inscribed within the coordinating system using specified reference types, .e. boundary reference, axial reference, boundary position, axial position (see figure 1 ). 3.2 Coordinating space A coordinating space is a space bounded in three dimen- sions by coordinating planes. 3.3 Coordinating dimension A coordinating dimension is the distance between coordi- nating planes. It is generally a multiple of a module. It is from the coordinating dimension that the nominal dimensions (basic dimensions) are derived. The magnitude of a coordinating dimension is termed “coordinating size“. Supersedes DIN 18 O00 Part 1, October 1979 edition, and DIN 18000 Part 2, March 1976 editior 4 Dimensional specifications 4.1 Modules The modules given in this standard are units of length that, as standardized magnitudes, serve to form coherent coordinating sizes (.e. sizes of coordinating dimensions). 4.2 Basic module The basic module is the smallest unit in modular coordi- nation. Its value is M = 100 mm. 4.3 Multimodules Multimodules are selected multiples of the basic module. The following are multimodules: 3M= 300mm; 6 M = 600mm; 12 M = 1200 mm. 4.4 Preferred numbers Preferred numbers (see table 1) are limited progressions of the multiples of the modules. They should preferably be used when forming coordinating sizes. The following are preferred numbers: 1,2,3, . 30X M; 1,2,3, . 20X 3M; 1,2,3, . 20X 6M; 1,2,3 ,. X 12M. 4.5 Supplementary sizes Supplementary sizes are standardized sizes that are smaller than M. Their values, which shall add up to M, are as follows: 25 mm; 50 mm; 75 mm.
