Dr Elizabeth Cirulli, assistant professor of medicine at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, led the study. She said, “This is the first study to look at a large number of factors. It is the largest study, when it es to the number of people participating, till now.” She said she did not know why contagious yawning reduced with age. Dr Cirulli added that although age was the most important predictor(预测器) of contagious yawning, only 8% of the change in whether or not a participant yawned was explained by their age. “Most of change in the contagious yawning reaction was just not explained,” said Dr Cirulli.
