年所写“普通 对比语言学的核心是对亲族语或非亲族语进行共时比较”。自那以后，各国对语际 问题进行共时对比研究已经有了极大的发展，出现了许许多多的对比语法，同时， 众多语言学家把现代语言学的研究成果用于翻译研究，于是便提出了所谓翻译理论 的语言学派。语言学的基本研究方法是比较方法。要想更好地掌握一种语言( 比如 母语) ，就最好懂得另外一种语言( 如外语) ：，没有一丽镜子，人是很难知道自己的 容貌的。出此可见，语言对比在学习、教育、研究等各领域意义非凡并闩益受到重 视。 ， l 英汉语中动名词使用频繁，中外学者对其研究也非风毛麟角，基本上都限于纯 语法现象的考察，如英语动名词的特点、逻辑主语、否定形式、与不定式和现在分 词的异同等，汉语动名词的性质、与名词、动词、名物化的关 的重点。迄今对英汉动名词作对比研究或深层次研究还未出现 者们描述 语吉是由能传播语言外信息( 如思想) 的符号单位构成的，符号学为语吉学研 究提供了又一切入点，语言符号学萨是在语言学和符号学的交叉点上产生的研究语 吉的符号特性的语言学。作为人类最基本的交际钓：号的语占，尽管有一系列区别特 征( 如它是普遍通用的交际工具) ，更有着很明显的符号性，具体体现在随意性、 两极性、系统性等方面。动名词是语言符号中的一部分，不同语言符号中的动名词 有异有同。基于对动名词研究的现状和符号学对语言对比研究的价值，本文初步从 符号学的角度探讨英汉动名词的异同，并在此对比的基础上探索其在翻译上的应 用。 ， 欧文共允六章进行阐述，其中第一章是引言。 第二章介绍英汉动名词的基本知识。本章根据词的形式和语法功能对动名词做 作了定义性的解释，即英语动名词和汉语动名词既有动词性特点又有名词性特点， 前者形式上是由动词和词缀i n g 构成的，后者形式上与动词同，无后缀。这就使英 语动名词和易与其混淆、构成方式相同的名词、形容词、副词、连词、介词、现在 分词区别丌了，也使得汉语动名词这一说法有了理据，在异于名词、动词的基础上 避免了汉语界对主宾语位置的“动词”上意见的分歧。动名词和动名词短语统称为 动名词语结，它们用法灵活多样，这也在本章中得以体现了。 第三章讲述符号的方方面面。符号是形式与内容的统一体，总的来说其两方面 的结合是随意的。符号系统由元素和结构构成，元素和结构都是形式和内容的统 体，不同符号系统有异有同。 第四章在第二第三章的基础上揭示了英汉动名词在符号视角下的异同。作为语 言符号的英汉动名词，在音义统一性、非对称性、社会性等方面是一致的，而在各 自语言系统内部音义的结合方式上是不同的。导致这些异同的根源是文化，中外文 化有同有异，其文化所附的动名词语言形式也就有同有异。
