摘要 随着中国加入世界贸易组织以及2 0 0 8 年奥运会的日益临近，英语口语的重 要性与日俱增。然而大学英语课堂教学长期以来忽视对学生英语口语能力的培 养，导致学生英语口语水平普遍偏低。传统的英语教学法被视为其根源之一，所 以尝试新的教学法是十分必要和迫切的。作为新教学法之一，小组活动受到很多 语言教学专家的推崇。为了探讨在课堂教学中运用小组活动对培养学生英语口语 能力的作用，笔者从2 0 0 6 年9 月4 日到2 0 0 7 年1 月1 7 日在所教的英语课堂上 进行了为期1 9 周的小组活动教学实验。 实验的对象是新闻专业两个班共计7 8 名二年级学生，a 班四十名，b 班3 8 名。b 班被选作实验班，a 班作为对照班。整个实验班分为9 个小组，每组4 到5 名学生，合作开展小组活动，一起完成学习任务，老师主要起组织和指导作 用。而对照班的英语教学以班级为单位，以老师讲解和学生独立学习为主要形式。 该研究采用的方法有口语测试，问卷调查和访谈。口语测试用来证明小组活 动能否提高学生的英语口语水平；i 1 卷调查旨在探讨小组活动对培养英语口语能 力的作用；访谈用于发现学生在小组活动中碰到的问题。数据分析结果表明： l 、小组活动能有效地提高非英语专业学生的英语口语能力。实验前，两个 班学生的英语口语水平没有显著差异；经过十九周的小组合作学习，实验班学生 的英语口语水平明显高于对照班。另外，调查问卷的结果表明实验班的学生在课 堂上开口说英语的自信心增加，主动性增强了。 2 、小组活动中出现的主要问题是： 1 ) 有些话题不是很贴近学生的日常生活，内容缺乏趣味性和挑战性。 2 ) 很多学生不能避免用母语进行交流。 3 ) 一些学生在小组活动中容易偷懒或者分心。 4 ) 有些学生侃侃而谈，有些却闭1 5 i 不说。 3 、解决问题的办法有 1 ) 教师要尽量挑选贴近学生日常生活的话题，并设计出能激发学生兴趣， 形式多样的小组活动。 2 ) 教师应该逐步引导学生开展小组活动，不能操之过急。 3 ) 教师要在学生开展小组活动前提醒每个小组分配好角色。 4 ) 教师要想方设法扩展学生的跨文化知识和日常生活联系紧密的词汇a
