摘要 卡尔桑德堡是以芝加哥诗集而闻名的美国著名的民主诗人及传记作家。 他出身于贫寒的瑞典移民家庭，未受过正规教育。卑微的身世与在社会底层工作 的阅历使他一生都关注着普通民众，为他的创作生涯提供了丰富的经验与素材并 极大的影响着他的写作风格和政治观点。作为一名具有民主思想的诗人，桑德堡 创作的目的是“为朴素的人民写朴素的诗”。他生活最崇高的理想是成为“人民的 要讨论人民对社会的巨大贡献。桑德堡热情讴歌对社会有着巨大贡献的普通但不 平凡的人民大众。人民是城市的建设者和生活中美的创造者这两点在桑德堡的 芝加哥诗集中被着重体现出来。第二章集中分析了桑德堡诗中所表现出来的 对处于痛苦中的人民的极大的同情。在他的诗中，桑德堡对劳动者，士兵，妇女 乃至黑人所承受的痛苦和遭受的不公平待遇都无一例外地进行了细致地描写并
