He is noted for his novels. It is acknowledged that Mark Twain is a great literary giant of America in the late 19th century. It is he, the first American writer, who fuses folk humor and serious literature into one whole and shapes the worlds view of America.Mark Twain is a famous critical realism writer in the late 19th among lots of writers in the western world. In fact, before Make Twain, there were many writers who used humor in their own works, however, they just stopped on the amusing meaning and could not go far any longer. It is Make Twain who pushes humor to a new height that is using humor and irony to satire the negative social phenomena and their own characteristics. And The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn also confirms Make Twains own literatures place on the American literature. The famous American writer Hemingway said that all modern American literature was from a book, namely, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain is the master of humor at the end of nineteenth century in the United States as well as the outstanding representative of realistic literature. His major works is the realistic depiction of peoples life situations at that time and works is always mixed with simmer with laughter humor which not only is full of rich wit but also deeply reveals the current situation that sets people thinking. This paper is mainly through the hero in The adventures of the Huckleberry Finn to reflect lifestyles decay of bourgeois and slavery of sin. Along Hucks footsteps, this text mainly analyzes Mark Twains humorous literature and its characteristics.Humorous style in Mark Twains worksHumor is the art of fun. It aims to give people pleasure but it always includes an element of satire. As “the true father of American literature”, Mark Twain is distinguished for his humor which is achieved mainly through the various figures of speech, such as irony, exaggeration, contrast , anti-climax and repetition, etc, which will be discussed in detail with the illustration of some of his famous works in the paper.A. Repetition In The 1.000.000 Bank-Note, we may quote the following paragraph as an illustration of repetition: They saw many honest faces go by that were not intelligent enough; many that were intelligent, but not honest enough; many that were both, but the possessor were not poor enough, or, if poor enough; were not strangers. The repetition of “enough” emphasizes that “I” is just the man that the two rich men have found, thus starts the protagonists comic experience, so the readers are deeply absorbed in Mark Twains humorous story.B. Anti-climaxIn Running for Governor, at the beginning, the author points out that Mr. Woodford and Mr. Hoffman- my rivals were so despicable that “it was plain that in these later years they had become familiar with all types of shameful crimes”. Compared with them, “I somehow felt that I had one prominent advantage over these gentlemen, and that was good character.” On reading here, not only the protagonist but also the readers have the confidence that “I” must be the winner in the fight. However, to every readers surprise. “I” give up the competition at last and even admit that “I was not equal to the requirements of a gubernatorial campaign in the state of New York.”C. Clever use of punEnglish is the language with the largest vocabulary in the world. In the course of its development, English swallows anything and everything, naturally including a lot of homonym, homographs and homonyms and so on. Mark Twain uses the pun cleverly to perform wonders. In the novel in a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs court Americans, the hero is knocked out in the fight in the factory and finds himself in a totally strange place after waking. At this time, a young man introduces himself to the hero that he is a page. But the hero is impatient and snapped: “Go long you arent more than a page. But we are familiar with the meaning of page that we can write on. What is a small boy who is smaller than page, could he speak with people? In the Stupid Child Foreign Travel, Mark Twain satires a priest named Canon Fulbert “Look at the situation, she returned to her uncle the old cannon or son of a gun. Canon is Bishop Monastery monks agreed with gun. Son of a gun is the curse words, while the old cannon is the old robber in American slang. The subtle bitter pun is really cunning words. “And when we hear the word of cunning, inhibiting effect is relieved suddenly which produces laugh. . Mark Twains humor in The Adventures of Huckleberry FinnBut why Mark Twains humor was moved to his readers? The reason not only is that he is good at using humor to write the darkness and injustice in the world where we live, not only is that he excels in using humor to write human deepest feelings that we can not speak out ourselves, but also lies in his special humorous writing style, but also lies in his unique humorous features. So next let us talk about Make Twains humor in detail in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. A .The use of “I” In Mark Twains major works, he always likes to use the first person to narrative stories in his novels. So in his works, as his readers, we can find out many “I” every where. “I” not only can represent the writer himself, but also can let our readers much easier understand Mark Twains works and follow the writers own thoughts in his novels. So the fact is that Mark Twain just uses the mouth of the hero to speak out his own ideas. In the story of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, using the first-person narrative way, Mark Twain lets Huckleberry Finn himself tell the story of his personal experiences along the Mississippi River where he lives , which not only can increase the authenticity of the story, but also can allow his readers to feel no doubt to the experiences of Huckleberry Finn. In the novel Huck that a 14 year-old boy naive, honest narrative as a clue, let the readers follow Hucks footsteps, along the Mississippi River rafting. To a childs perspective to record what one sees and hears, this makes the readers and the protagonist view intersection and empathy, emotional resonance and also makes the reader know clearly how to hack on false stereotype weariness of life as well as to free a new life of adventure eager longing. Mark Twain designs the first-person narrative writing technique, to provide the readers with a sense of narrative events with the best perspective, so that the reader can not only truly, clearly feel the heroins e experiences and emotions, but can correctly understand and judge the social realism of the America at that time.B. Humorous and satirical unity When Mark Twain began writing, American literature is literatures heyday, so he can insight into the inner nature of things with his rich life experience, sharp eyes and he sharply attacks the absurd phenomenon. So we can easily find that his creation not only lets the readers feel humor, but also is regarded as a kind of criticism at that time in the American society. Unreasonable and unjust social reality conceals many things. Such as in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain describes two ugly and antics cheats through a King and a Duke. In order to get money from people, even under the so-called peaceful times, they can do act recklessly and care for nobody even with no sense of shame. The two cheats together set up a stage and tell you that you can see a play which you have never seen. But when the play field is full of curious onlookers, Duke that we face after blowing, suddenly pushes the curtain, so you see, the king naked on stage jumps right and left and shows all sorts of ugly behaviors to introduce the background. At this point, Mark Twain uses humorous irony writing: these old idiots do those things, but can really make a cow at all laugh. From these descriptions, what we see is a simmer with laughter humor, there is a bitter satire, which has the profound social significance.C. Ideological and artistic unityMark Twain creates new styles to create performance in that he is good at showing the real life scenes and miscellaneous organization into full of interesting stories and he excels in their daily life phenomenon and natural scenery description of his profound thoughts. The novel through the floating raft of down stream embodies the picture of Mississippi river: destitute country, a brutal feud, opposing racial oppression which reflects the image before and after the civil war of American society. The novel is the real life carved with the lyric description of Mississippi River scenery and stories of fascinating adventure blend together. Acts of nature, beautiful scenery along the Mississippi River and false ferocious capitalist civilized mutual control, rich and colorful adventures and dull school life is compared. This contrast method not only provides readers with true and false, beauty and ugliness, kindness and evil of the education, but also makes the story well-proportioned, colorful, and lets the thought, the knowledge and the interest closely together.D. Justice and injustice of ambivalenceIn the Mark Twains area, racial discrimination and prejudice have been ingrained and it is difficult to completely remove it all of sudden. The hero Huck and Jim represents the friendship between honest, courageous justice party and fraud, false, non justice party. Mark Twain as a teenager Huck to reflect black Jim fled to this matter, the surface is childish, primary, subconscious, but when we think carefully, we would know that this is the childs heart after a fierce ideological struggle then he decides to break the influence of mainstream society and against the world. Despite that he is dangerous because he breaks the influence of mainstream society that may let himself go into hell”, he also decides to stand in the side of Jim and help Jim get out of trouble, which clearly reflects the pure of the struggle between justice and injustice in a naive childs heart. So this kind of conflict, the contrast between justice and injustice, is much clearer in the readers mind.E. Personification Personification, as one of writing characteristics, which matters things as people to write, not only makes us feel more cordial, but also can add the comedy. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, we can find personifications footprint every where. When Hack hides in the island, to express his feelings under that condition, he says to himself as well as the readers: if you see a stump, I as a person. If I step on a stick, crushed, I felt as if someone put my breath into two halves, I only got half tone and the short half tone”. Put on the broken branches as a person was cut, how fun, we can imagine how can cut off the gas? But we also can smile between the lines when we read the novel and feel the true feelings of Huck that frustration and anger, the psychological state of extreme nervousness. Mark Twains biggest advantage is that he is always good at using wonderful humorous language to firmly grasp the heart of every reader, so we can easily get into the heart of the hero.F. ExaggerationTalking of Mark Twains humor features, we cannot but talk about his exaggeration, which can make the readers feel the true feelings to the essence of things. When we read the novel of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, we can find such exaggeration like “Hes plumb crazy, its what I says in the fusty place, its what I says in the middle, n its what I says last n all the time - the niggers crazy - crazys Nebokoodneezer.”This is a peasant woman who always says I said, crazy and the same words, which lets the readers feel angry and amused! Mark Twain always uses this extremely exaggerated vivid expression to give the reader a deep impression and leave the constantly repeated woman in the mind of readers.G .Irony Talking of Mark Twains humor, we have to talk from detail. His works is full of irony and a phrase usually has double meanings. In particular, he uses very subtle irony to set people thinking, so we have to consider the reality of life in the phenomenon of surfaces.Through reading the novel of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, it is not difficult to discover that this works is full of irony such as “Rev. Hobson and Dr. Robinson was down to the end of the town a-hunting together - that is, I mean the doctor was shipping a sick man to the other world, and the preacher was printed him right.”As everyone knows, the doctors occupation is to heal the wounded, rescue the dying and let the pe
