Diagnoses of the Problems with the College StudentsDiagnoses of the Problems with the College Students周焕 1163510231 商学院AbstractWith the improvement of education, the time that college students being in short supply has gone. That seems to be most exciting development in education, but many problems still trouble the college students, which should be paid great attention to. So diagnosing the problems with nowadays college students is of great significance. The paper tries to point out some problems commonly seen among them, mainly focusing on the academic problems, the physical and mental health problems, the job hunting and the high IQ but low EQ phenomenon. In the view of the problems which exist, the author proposed the shallow opinion and advice, hoping that it can give some warnings and inspirations to the readers (especially the college students) as well as providing some reference to others research.Key wordsDiagnosis; Problems; College students; Analysis; AdviceIntroduction The paper is going to analyze the four problems that many college students are faced one by one (thoroughly). During the process, a lot of examples, statistics, and quotes will be used to dig out the scientific and proper reasons that cause those problems.Academic problems To spur the students on, teachers and parents always try to convey the idea that only by studying hard can one finally be accepted by a good university as well as enjoying the relaxing and free college life. The result is that some students begin to do whatever they want and totally lose control of themselves after entering the college. Its commonly seen that college students being addicted to computer or forming the bad habits of drinking alcohol and smoking, etc. Whats worse, quite some college students seldom take exams with adequate preparation, which leads to low marks or even failure in the exams. Also, there are some students who work hard or even harder when compared to junior high school and bury themselves in piles of books to get good grades in exams. But high grades are not necessarily indicative of ones ability. Many students who are average in performance during the student age have achieved huge success and earned great fame while some with admiring grades have lived a common life. Taking Edison for example, he was considered not clever by his school teachers, but proved himself a talented and great inventor later. As Confusion once put it, “Going beyond the limit is as bad as falling short.” One should always avoid going into those two extremes. We college students should take responsibilities for ourselves and try to balance our study, entertainment and work to cultivate ourselves into all-round talents. For the students who lead themselves into self-indulgence, they can try transferring their interests and vigor to other meaningful activities. As for those who spend all their time just studying, try something new and take full use of the environment and facilities in the college, thats what college life ought to be.Physical and mental health problems Every year, there are lots of reports on college students getting military training, whose focus is on the negative side. Some students fainted because they couldnt tolerate the training. In the final analysis, this results from the poor physical being of the students. Too often, students are not aware of the fact that they are not as strong as they think. They believe they are still young and not necessary to worry about their health condition. If this idea does not change, how dangerous it will be! Remember, when there is body healthy, there is everything. Under no circumstance should one ignore his or her physical well-being. China Science and Technology Information Oct. 2005 showed a survey on college students body condition and gave the following suggestions: (1) Take regular exercise to enhance vigor and ease the pressure (2) Balanced eating habits and scientific method of eating must be formed (3) Master the basic health knowledge and strengthen the attentionJust try the ways that you think are suitable. As for mental health, with the fast increase in the cases of campus violence and murder in recent years, greater importance is being attached to the mental health of college students, as many educators and psychologists have pointed out. Mental health is as important as, if not more than, physical health is to the development of all-around personality. Poor mental health has always exerted a negative influence to students life and study and will jeopardize their future in the long run. Yan Jun, the graduate student of Tsinghua University, committing suicide is totally a tragedy as well as the best proof of poor mental health. In promoting the mental well-being of college students, the school should play a leading role in the premise of students paying enough attention. A seamless system of mental health and counseling services for students must be created by establishing mental health centers and setting up workshops or seminars to help the students realize the importance of mental health.Problems of job hunting Though being well-educated, that has nothing to do with guaranteeing a college student a great job. Since there are so many college students nowadays and there is no doubt that the number will keep increasing at a high speed, the job hunting can be really severe, sometimes even beyond description. According to statistics, since 2009 the annual number of college students is more than 6,000,000 and to be honest, we have to admit that the education of the college and the social market demand for talents are seriously out of line. Then, how to improve the severe situation? On the one hand, government shall create good employment environment to guide the college students while universities actively carry out the reform of education and teaching. On the other hand, college students should establish a correct view of employment and seek every chance to accumulate experience or professional skills to make themselves competitive job hunters.High IQ but low EQ As Daniel Goleman suggests in his book, Emotional Intelligence, the latest scientific findings seem to indicate that intelligent but inflexible people dont have the right stuff in an age where the adaptive ability is the key to survival. So emotional quotient (EQ), which includes the inhibition of impulsivity, the delay of gratification of restraint, the ability to control and adjust ones attention, the ability to put oneself in others positions for the sake of others and the ability to establish good interpersonal relationships with others and so on, should be paid as much attention as, if not more than intellectual quotient to. There is no denying that the high IQ but low EQ phenomenon be cleared. Here comes the advice to improve EQ:*Raising consciousness. Its the basic skills to adjust ones emotions. Only by catching oneself in the act of thinking as often as possible, in other words, knowing exactly what is going to be done and the relevant consequences, can one finally take control of the emotions.*Using imagery and self reflection. This is a good way to set goals and take timely adjustment to correct mistakes.*Think twice before actions. Every time something important and unexpected happens, assign as m
