Therefore, very few people were able to enjoy some of historys most important and interesting artifacts (手工艺品). This has changed with an increase in the number of traveling museum exhibitions. 21*cnjy*comKing Tutankhamen ArtifactsA traveling exhibition of artifacts from the tomb of King Tutankhamen, popularly known as “King Tut”, toured the United States from November 1976 to April 1979. The 55 objects were shown in six cities and were seen by around eight million museum-goers. The second touring exhibit was started in 2007, this time with 130 artifacts and stops in London and three different American cities. However some objects, like the kings golden face mask, are too valuable or too delicate to be transported long distances, so “replicas” (exact copies of something) are on show.Japanese Color Woodblock PrintsThe Art Museum at University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Virginia, has an extraordinary collection of Japanese color woodblock prints (木刻版画). These prints document the period from about 1850 to 1900, a time when Japan was opening itself to Western influences. Before this point, Japan was a closed society that had little communication with the world outside of its borders. These works of art beautifully show the feeling of change and the trend toward modernization. The museum has put together a traveling exhibition of 60 of these prints, which can be borrowed and exhibited worldwide for periods of eight weeks or more.Face-to-face with “Lucy”One of the worlds most famous archaeological (考古学的) finds in history are the 3.2 million-year-old bones of a 106-centimeter-tall female found in the Ethiopian desert in 1974. Lucy, a name given to her by the discovery team, is a “hominid”, or a creature that scientists believe is the earliest ancestor of modern human beings. Rarely is an artifact this valuable allowed to travel widely, but Lucy has been taken to several museums in the U.S. while a detailed replica remains at the Ethiopian Natural History Museum. 2-1-c-n-j-y21. They eat a tiny breakfast of little buttery bread and coffee, put cream onto everything, have full-fat cheeses, eat a late dinner and never skip dessert! Yet only 8% of the French are fat, compared to 50% of Americans! Whats their secret? Although everything the French eat is rich, almost all of it is fresh. You may get slim the way French do if you:Say yes to rich foods! Dont refuse the meats you love, but do cut down the quantity. A study recently found that quantities in France are at least 25% smaller than ours are! In fact, the study shows, U. S. candy bars 42% larger, soft drinks 52% larger and yogurt cups 82% bigger! Fat is filling, so even though youre eating less, youll feel satisfied longer.Spark a conversation. The French use meals as times to enjoy family. And because their meals are social, they eat their food more slowly, stopping to put their forks down between each bite to chat. As a result, their brains have time to send the “Im full” signals before theyve overeaten.Skip snacks(零食). Sure, the French love their mealsbut what they dont love is snacking. While most Americans stop a few times a day to have extra calories between meals , if the French feels hungry, they have tea or coffeeboth low in calories, yet comforting and filling.Finish with chocolate! However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind. 36 Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. 37 Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. 38 Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. 39 Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people. 40 Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits. A. To fight family laziness, set an example. B. Knowing how to fight laziness is important. C. One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep. D. Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness. E. With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal. F. Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind. G. Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child.第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每题1.5分,满分30分)Make the Most of What You Have GotFor Nick , life was going to be difficult from the day he was born.
