RevisionUse some signs (traffic rules pictures) in the city to review imperative sentences(Purpose: review the learned content and arouse students interest with some vivid pictures in life.)Step II Presentation1. Lead-inT: How are you? Are you happy today? Why?/ Why not?When you are unhappy, what do you like to do?T: I like to listen to music or eat some delicious food.S1: I like to talk to my best friend.S2: I like to play computer games.S3: I like to hang out with my friends.T: Then, What about Molly? When she is unhappy, she chooses to write a letter. Lets see the letter!(Purpose: lead into the learning of the letters )2. Reading (Activities 2b & 2c)Call attention to the letter and point out the opening, Dear Dr. Know.T: This is a letter to a newspaper writer. Molly is writing to get some advice. First, please read the letter quickly and find “Is Molly happy?”Ss: Molly is not happy.T: Why?Ss: Because she has too many rules in her family.Ask students to listen to the text and underline any difficult points at the same time.Then several students to read them paragraph by paragraph. Correct pronunciation mistakes if any.Lead students to read them together. Explain some difficult language points. Ask students to have a look at the sentences in 2c to know what to do.Let students complete the sentences individually.Later check the answers together.(Purpose: the concentrated learning of the letters and bring out grammar focus here.)Step III Practice1. Teach activity 3aFirst, ask students to have a quick look at the passage to get the main idea.Then give them several minutes to complete the letter using the modal verbs given.After they finish doing the task, invite a student to read the complete letter to check the answers. Correct mistakes if any.Later, lead students to read the letter together.2. Extensive thinking and Critical thinkingUse a group of pictures to lead student to know the importance of obeying some right rules in life and meanwhile, induce them to think about the unfair rules that we shall speak out.3. Writing (Activities 3b and 3c)First, teach students a mind-map for writing letters and then give them a structure to write a letter to their parents, talking about the unfair rules in their families and speaking out their suggestions.Give students several minutes to write and then ask three students to read his or her letter to the class. After reading, the whole class will choose out the best writer through voting by raising hands. At last, the winner will get an apple!(Purpose: consolidate the learned content and extend the horizon of students)Step IV SummeryIn this period, we mainly talked about the usage of modal verbs and letter writing structure through explaining some significant rules in life. And after learning this lesson, the students will know “We cant live without rules, but we cant only live for rules.” And they will learn to speak out the unfair rules in their family and give some suggestions.Step V Homework1.
