Section B 2bStudents: 60 students in Grade Seven, Class ThreeLesson duration: 45 Mins.Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: Students can have a general understanding of the passage and get some detail information; Students can summarize the passage by a few words.Ability aims: Students can learn and improve sub-reading skills like skimming, scanning and summarization. Students can be equipped with the abilities of learning autonomously and learning by groups.Emotional aims: Students can give some advice on how to help the children in poor areas and can express their expectations in the future jobs.Teaching methodology: TBLT, the flipped classroomTeaching aids: multimedia, blackboardTeaching procedures:Step one: Before reading-Lead-in(2)The teacher has given the task last class, so at the beginning of this class, the teacher greets to students as usual.T: Last class, I have given you the task. That is, you need to learn the passage Crossing the River to School from three aspects after class. Now, Id like invite some of you to share your ideas. Now, lets welcome Zhao Lin.(Purpose of design: to encourage students to learn by themselves and arouse their interests by a different way of teaching)Step two: While-reading- extensive reading(15)Activity one(3): The first student Zhao Lin uses her method to guide students to have a general understanding of the whole passage.Zhao: We have already read this passage, now Whod like to tell us the main idea of this passage?Ss: (students answers)(Purpose of design: to help students have a general understanding of the passage and improve their reading skills like summarization)Activity two(8): Zhao asks several questions and the rest students need to answer them.Q1. How do the students in the village go to school?(Key: They go on a ropeway to school to school on school days.)Q2. Why do they go to school like this? (Key: a. There is a big river between their school and the village. b. There is no bridge.c. The river runs too quickly for boats. It means they cant cross the river by boat.)Q3. Does the boy like his school? Why? (Key: Yes, the boy Liangliang likes his school very much.Because he loves to play with his classmates. He also loves his teacher. Because the teacher is like a father to him.) Q4. What is the villagers dream? (Key: The villagers dream is to have a bridge.)Q5: Can their dream come true? (Key: Students answers)(Purpose of design: to equip students with reading skills like skimming.)Activity three(4): According to the passage, Zhao asks students to fill in the blanks in 2c and students are required to read the whole sentences loudly.Zhao: Very good, and thank you for your answers. Next we have another activity to help us understand the passage. Please look at the screen and fill in the blanks.(Keys: difficult, big, quickly, afraid, true).Zhao: Thats all, thank you everyone.(Purpose of design: to help students get some important information and prepare for the next activity)Step three: While-reading- intensive reading(15)Activity one(2): After Zhaos sharing, the teacher gives simple comments and translates to another part. T: Excellent! Zhan Lin makes a good example for us. She leads us to know the main idea of this passage with the clear outline and some questions. Lets applause for her. Having the rough ideas already, lets move to the second part - intensive reading for more detail information. Lets welcome Yan Zhen and Zhuzheng Xiyi.(Purpose of design: to show that the role of the teacher is a guider and let more students to join the flipped classroom, lowering their anxiety.)Activity two(3): Yan conducts chorus reading.Yan: Zhao Lin has led us to have a general understanding of this passage, next I will have some activities to help understand more details of this passage. Are you ready? Lets go.Yan: First, lets read the passage carefully again, then we try to find some key words of this passage. Now lets read the passage loudly together. Crossing the river to school, begin.(Purpose of design: to emphasize the importance of reading and get familiar with the passage)Activity three(10): Zhuzheng guides careful reading and asks students to read the passage in order to find key words.Zhu: Next, we have three minutes to read the passage quietly by yourselves and try to find the key words.Zhu: OK, it s time. Whod like to tell us the first key word you find?S1: Its difficult (and states the reason)Zhu: Good! I agree with you. They have a more difficult way to get to school. First, we see the picture on the textbook. In this picture, we can see two students are hanging over the river; it seems that they dont have too much protection. And from the textbook we know the river runs too quickly, if they fall from the ropeway, I think they will die. So its not only difficult but kind of dangerous. So I do agree that the first key word is difficult.Zhu guides students to find the key words in this way one by one. Besides, she states the reasons and tries to find the supporting evidence.(Purpose of design: to help students to learn abilities like scanning and summarization which is useful in the later study)Step four: after-reading- extent reading(13) Activity one(2): The teacher gives simple comments and translates to the final part. T: You all did a good job. We try to analyze the passage from different aspects to gain the detail information, which helps us to comprehend the passage better. However, beyond the passage itself, we can learn something else. Now, lets welcome the last students, Zhang Yujia.(Purpose of design: to give students confidence and summarize simply)Activity two(3): Zhang shows some pictures of children in poor condition, especially the way they go to school. Then she asks students a question.Zhang: Now we have known the main idea and some details of this passage. Next, we try to think about something out of this passage. First I have a question for you. Is the village the only place where there is no bridge?Zhang: In China, there are still many places in which students have many problems going to school. (show the pictures meanwhile)(Purpose of design: to state the fact that there are many small villages in China and stimulate students to think)Activity three(6): After watching the pictures, Zhang asks their feelings and how to realize these villagers dream.Zhang: How do you feel after watching these pictures?Zhang: Next, I want to talk about dream. In the passage, villagers have a dream, and just now some of our classmates told us, they can make their dream come true with other peoples help. But lets think about it. Do they want to make their dream come true by themselves?Ss: (share their ideas)Zhang: I agree with you. With our efforts, I believe their dreams because all of us take care of them.
