Teach the new words.Use some pictures to present the new words: post office, pay phone, bank, supermarket, hotel, library, street, restaurant, park.T:(Show a picture of a post office) Look! Whats this?Ss: Its a post office.T: Is there a post office on the street?Ss: Yes, there is.Teach the other words in the same way.3. Teach Activity 1a.First, ask students to read the words several times after the recording.T: (Play the tape) Now, please read the new words after the tape.Then the students match the words with the places in the picture. When the students finish, the teacher asks one student to check.4. Teach Activity 1b.(point the picture and ask)T: Is there a hospital near here?Ss: Yes, there is. Its on Bridge Street.T: What other places are there? Lets listen to get.First play the recorder, ask the students to circle the places they hear in the picture in 1a.Then check the answers.5. Teach Activity 2c.Teacher points to the list of places in 1a and asks a student to read the list aloud.Then point to the question and answer in the speech bubbles in 2c and ask a pair of students to read the conversation to the class. Ask other pairs of students to repeat the activity.Next, have students work in pairs. First, one student asks a question and then the other student takes a turn. Ask about the buildings in 1a.Invite a student to demonstrate the activity. Point to the map and ask: Wheres the park?Then choose a student to answer. Guide the student to say: Its across from the bank.As students work, move around the room and check their progress. Then ask some students to present their questions and answers to the class.Step ConsolidationTeach Activity 2d.First, give students several minutes to read through the conversation silently to get the main idea of it, underline the difficult language points at the same time.Invite a pair of students to read the conversation.Then lead students to read the conversation together, explain a language point at the same time.Give students enough time to role-play the conversation in pairs, encourage them to change the key words to make their own conversations.Finally, invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.Step SummaryIn this period, we have learned some vocabulary about places and positions.
