T: On what Festival do people eat this kind of food? S1: Dragon Boat festival. T: Very clever! Now please read a short passage about this gestival and answer the question. Dragon Boat Festival The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival in China, we also call it the Duanwu Festival, people celebrate it on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. What festival? Watch a short movie, then youll know it. (播放一段制作火鸡的短片) Ss: Oh, its Thanksgiving Day. T: Yes, what do you know about Thanksgiving? When is it? Where do people celebrate it? Why do people people celebrate it? What food do people usually eat? S2: Its on the fourth Thurday in November. S3: Paople usually eat turkey. S4: People celebrate it in the USA. T: Very good! Now let me tell you more about it. (边出示图片边介绍). Thanksgiving day is a time to give thanks for food in autumn. Look! They were the first travelers from England who came to live in America about 400 years ago. At that time, their life were very hard. Many of them died in the long winter. In the next autumn, they gave thanks for life and food in their new home.Now most Americans still celebrate this idea of giving thanks by having a big meal at home with their family.【设计意图与反思】通过头脑风暴,唤醒学生对感恩节已有知识,在通过教师介绍感恩节由来等知识,引出其他新单词和课文难句,这也扫除学生阅读障碍。Step 4 Reading T: Now open your books and read the passage. (学生自主完成,然后师生核对答案) T: Now read Part Two( From ”These travelers”to”a large bird”) and answer Q4 and Q5. 4. How do people celebrate it now?5. What is the main dish of the Thanksgiving meal? Middle-Autumn Festival The Middle-Autumn Festival is one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it is often in September or October.
