S 2:Perhaps there were other reasons. What about the educational level of people who wanted to enter the fire service in Seattle? I suppose that blacks have to take the same exams to get into the fire service as whites, dont they? No amount of calling on “brotherhood” and “liberty” is going to change that, is it?S 1:OK. But why do they have low scores in the first place? Are black people really less intelligent than whites?S 2:I dont think so. Perhaps they work less hard. S 1:Perhaps they have less good schools than the whites. After all, the schools in the southern states were separated into two groups:ones for blacks and others for whites. Maybe they had better pay and conditions in the schools for whites. S 2:In that case that was a fundamental disadvantage forblacks. It should have been prohibited very early. Why did the blacks submit to it?S 1:They did try to boycott the schools and fight a battle for multi-racial education.
