必修一单词连接模块1:With the development of science and technology, electronic technique becomes more and more popular in our daily life. At the same time, students tend to follow the trend when choosing a major in university. However, when they graduate, most of them will feel embarrassed facing the reality. Paul, whose hometown is in Hebei Province, graduated from Shandong University in 2009. His major was electronic and information engineering (电子信息工程), but he found that he did not love the major after a period of study. At last, he became bored with his courses. When he got his college diploma, few jobs opened up to him. It was really disappointing when he had been rejected by most companies which he was enthusiastic to take their interviews. At last, he found a job as an assistant in a small company. His work was trivial(琐碎的), covering most daily routine. Every day, he had to follow the instructions of his boss and sometimes bear the bosss misunderstanding. The job added no enjoyment to him. Though his situation was embarrassing and he felt disappointed with the job, he found that his previous enthusiasm had disappeared and he needed someone to give him some encouragements. As young teenagers, we should learn to find our real interests and at the same time, be adapted to our countrys education system. Thus, we will know what we really want to learn and will not follow the boys footsteps in the description which impresses us. Nowadays, we can receive various kinds of information through the Internet and some websites also provide platforms(平台) for academic exchange. We will be amazed at the amazing information content(信息量) we get from the Internet. For instance, you are fond of English and want to speak fluent English, but you do not have a good learning method. Then you can search for some websites for English study, and they will provide many methods and corrections for your English study. As another example, you want to have a brilliant head and a good comprehension ability, and then you can search for some Brain Teasers(脑筋急转弯) through the Internet. As we know, attitude is all. We should regulate our learning behavior, and only in this way, can we get more knowledge. Now that we have decorated the house, we can move in.academic 2:It is interesting to look at differences between schools in different countries. In many European countries, for example, the relationship between teachers and students is quite formal. This is true of France, Germany, and Spain, where discipline and respect for the teacher is considered very important. Similarly, Russia is also the same. In northern European countries, however, the relationship between teachers and students is much friendlier and more relaxed. In Britain, relationships are quite relaxed, but teachers can have big problems with discipline and timetable. In China, grades are important no matter who your headmaster is. Before one class, you should revise textbooks while after classes, you should do revision. It is the same with our school, though we get a headmistress. However, our teachers are all kind. They say that first impressions are very important. My first impression of Mrs. Li was that she was nervous and shy. I think perhaps she was, as it was her first lesson with us. But now, after two weeks, the class really likes working with her. She is kind and patient, and she explains English grammar so clearly that even I can understand it!She avoids making you feel stupid! I have always hated making mistakes or pronouncing a word incorrectly when I speak English, but Mrs. Li just smiles, so that you dont feel completely stupid! I think maybe she goes a bit too slowly for the intelligent students, but for me it is wonderful! I feel I am going to make progress with her.Id guess that Mrs. Chen is almost sixty. She is very strictwe dont dare to say a word unless she asks us to. She is also very serious and doesnt smile much. When she asks you to do something, you do it immediately! There are a few students in our class who keep coming to class late but they are always on time for Mrs. Chens lessons! Some of our classes dont like her, but most of us really appreciate her because her teaching is so well organized and clear. And a few students even admit liking her! During scientific experiments, she explains exactly what is happening and as a result my work is improving. Physics will never be my favorite lesson, but I think that I will do well in the exam with Mrs. Chens organized teaching.Mr. Wus only been teaching us for two weeks and he is already very popular. He usually tells some amusing topics. I think this is because he really enjoys teaching Chinese literaturehe loves it, in fact! Hes really energetic, and this is one class you do not fall asleep in! Hes about 28, I think, and is rather good-looking. He talks loudly and fast, and waves his hands about a lot when he gets excited. He is really amusing and tells jokes when he thinks we are getting bored. Even things like compositions and summaries are fun with Mr. Wu. There are many kinds of transportation products, like helicopter, motorbike, tram, train and so on. The fastest train in the world, the Transrapid Maglev, runs between Shanghais Pudong Airport and Longyang Station in downtown Shanghai. Travelling at a speed of over 400 kilometres per hour, the train can complete the 30-kilometre journey in eight minutes. Maglev means “magnetically levitated”. The Transrapid Maglev is the worlds first high-speed train using magnetic levitation technology. Magnetically levitated trains travel in a vacuum between two magnets. There are no rails and no noise. They travel very fast and they use less energy. On December 31, 2002, Premier Zhu Rongji and the German chancellor attended the opening ceremony of the train service. It is a big event. Both leaders took the train to Pudong Airport. On November 12,2003, the Maglev reached a speed of 501 kilometres per hour on the track between Longyang Station and Pudong, a new world record speed for a train.I have had a good trip. My name is Alice Thompson. I come from Sydney, Australia and I am 18 years old. Recently I had my first ride on a long-distance train. And what a ride! A friend and I travelled on the famous Ghan train. We got on in Sydney and we got off in Alice Springs, right in the middle of Australia, more than four thousand kilometers away. We spent two days and nights on the train. The train was wonderful and the food was great. We ate great meals cooked by experts! For the first few hundred kilometers of the journey, the scenery was very colorful. There were fields and the soil was dark red, with eagles flying in the sky. After that, it was desert. The sun shone, there was no wind and there were no clouds in the sky. Suddenly, it looked like a place from another time. We saw abandoned farms which were built more than a hundred years ago. The train was comfortable and the people were nice. During the day, I sat and looked out of the window, and sometimes talked to other passengers. I read books and listened to my Chinese cassettes (I am studying Chinese at school). One night, at about midnight, I watched the night sky for about an hour. The stars shone like diamonds. Why is the train called the Ghan? A long time ago, Australians needed a way to travel to the middle of the country. They tried riding horses, but the horses didnt like the hot weather and sand. A hundred and fifty years ago, they brought some camels from Afghanistan. Ghan is short for Afghanistan.Camels were much better than horses for travelling a long distance. For many years, trained camels carried food and other supplies, and returned with wool and other products. The Afghans and their camels did this until the 1920s. Then the government built a new railway line, so they didnt need the camels any more. In 1925, they passed a law which allowed people to shoot the animals if they were a problem. In 1935, the police in a town shot 153 camels in one day. There will be a circus playing in the stadium near the seaside tonight, where there are many apartments and a kindergarten. I never used to enjoy science, but last year I changed schools, and the science teachers at my new school are excellent. The science facilities are very good, with laboratories that have all the latest equipment, like new tongs, crucibles and balances. Our chemistry teacher, Mr. Longford, takes us to public science lectures about four times a term, and these are always very interesting, as the lecturers are people who have made real discoveries in their area of science. The fact is, Canada has many first-class scientists.Im becoming more and more interested in physics, and have decided that I want to study it at university. Im going to try to go to a university which has good Chemistry Departments. My parents are astonished. They always thought I would become an English teacher!Chemistry leads me to a magic world. Water exists as a solid, a liquid and a gas. When you heat a metal, it expands instead of contracting. Steel is a mixture of iron and oxygen instead of other substances. Iron does not rust in air-free water while it will rust in ordinary water. Electricity is not natural. Some substances will not dissolve in water unless they are placed in boiled water. It is hard to think of a world without metals. Different metals have different uses, for example, steel is used in cars and iron is used in electrical equipment. When we use metals, it is important to know how they react with different substances, for example, water and oxygen. The reaction of metals with these substances can be put in order. This is the aim. Here is a table with the metals that react most at the top, and the metals that react least at the bottom.MetalHeated in oxygenReaction with water or steamPotassiumBurns to form an oxide*Reacting with cold waterSodiumCalciumMagnesiumReacting with steamAluminumZincIronReacts slowlyPartial reactionCopperPartial reactionNo reaction* an oxide = another substance + oxygenFrom the chart, we can easily approach the last stagedrawing some conclusions to form a whole experiment. Some oils are floating on the water and any open flame should be forbidden.1.liquid n. 14.react vi. It contains millions of pages of data. It has been a fantastic tool for our daily life.In 1969, DARPA, a US defense organization, developed a way for all their computers to “talk” to each other through the telephone. They created a network of computers called DARPANET. It was originally founded by the needs of the military. For fifteen years, only the US army could use this system of communication. Then in 1984, the US National Science Foundation (NFS) started the NSFNET network. It then became possible for universities to use the system as well. NSFNET became known as the Inter-Network, or “Internet”.The World Wide Web (the web) is a computer network that allows computer users to access information from millions of websites via the Internet. At the moment,
