Its a class of listening and speaking. The language goal is to practice telling ones preferences about events. Such a topic is related to daily life, so it is easy to raise learning interests and master the contents in this part. It will be helpful to learn the rest of this unit.2.Teaching Aims Language goals1)Study the words and expressions: sitcom, news, soap opera, talk show, talent show, sports show and game show.2)Master the new sentence patterns: What do you think of talk shows? I like them. I love them. I dont mind them. I dont like them. I cant stand them. Ability goals Students can tell us their preferences about events and improve their abilities of listening and speaking. Emotion goalsEnable students to give opinions about events and know different TV shows are for different audience.3.Teaching Key and Difficult Points Teaching Key Points1) Remember the new words and expressions.2) Master the sentence patterns.Teaching DifficultiesTrain the students to give their opinions about different events.4.Teaching aidsThe multi-media player, videos, pictures and so on.Part Two Analysis of the Students Although the students are in Grade 8,they are still weak in oral English and cooperative learning. They are often shy to speak English, so I designed some kinds of activities and give them more opportunities to improve their English.Part Three The Teaching Methods 1.Cooperative and communicative learning methods.2.Task-based teaching method.3.Interest teaching method.4.CAI teaching method.Purpose :In this lesson, I mainly use these teaching methods to cultivate the studentsabilities of listening, speaking, reading, and their good sense of the English language. Part Four Studying ways1.Autonomous learning. 2.Cooperative inquiry. Purpose : I want to cultivate students abilities of autonomous learning and cooperative inquiry. Part Five Teaching proceduresAs this lesson plays an important part in the unit, I want to train their abilities of listening and speaking with the following steps.Step1 Lead-inFirst, chant together. It is to warm up before the new lesson and arouse students interest in learning English. Then show the photos of Confucius activities to the students. Students are very happy to take part in the activities. Most students like watching TV shows at home. So I will show them some pictures of TV shows to talk about.Purpose :By leading into the topic, I want the students to learn about the language goals. Step2 Presentation Task1 Learn the language goals1)Learn the words and expressions about TV shows through autonomous learning.Purpose : I want to cultivate the students ability of autonomous learning. Then match the TV shows to check the result of the autonomous learning.2)Learn how to give opinions about different kinds of TV shows.First, watch the video about Chinese Poetry Conference and lead to the target language: What do you think of game shows? Get the students to show us their feelings using like or love .Next, watch the video about Venus Talk Show and express their feelings using dont mind and dont like. After watching the video, I will ask the students: Do you want to know what I think of soap operas? My answer derives the expression cant stand .Then guess what TV show it is after watching the video and ask for their opinions about sports shows.At last, watch the picture of a sitcom to read and spell the word. After that, get the students to show me their feelings about sitcoms.Purpose :Through the CAI teaching method, I would like to arouse the students interest of studying, let them master the language goals easily.3) Quick answer: Match More TV shows. The purpose is to broaden knowledge about TV shows.4)Memory challenge:Watch the video and answer what activities there are in it.Purpose: Let the students know about different activities besides TV shows.5)Group work: Let the students show us their opinions about different kinds of TV shows or activities by cooperative inquiry in groups. And write the key structures on the blackboard. Purpose: Let the students master the key structures through cooperative inquiry. Task2 Listening Pre-listening Observe the pictures and try to find important information to finish 1a.Purpose: This activity is to enable the students to master the new words and expressions .While-listening 1)Play the listening material, let the students listen and finish 1b. 2)Listen again and find the useful information to finish the choice.3)Imitate the listening material. Purpose : This step is to make the students master listening skills. Learn to get the general idea and catch the information they need. At the same time, correct their pronunciation and intonation. Post-listeningFirst, Let the students guess the meanings of different masks. Let them make a conversation according to the examples.Then encourage them to act it through role-play. Purpose : By practicing the language goals, students will know how to use them correctly. So the difficult points will be solved. Besides, they will learn how to cooperate and communicate with each other.Step3 PracticeOral practice: I design a debate. The debate topic: Which shows are better, game shows or talent shows? Look! This is a debate draft. It was written by a group of students. The wonderful debate is so interesting that all the students want to take part in it.Purpose : I want to get the students to improve their speaking and cooperating abilities by debating .Step4 Consolidation and improvement let the students make a survey: What do you think of ?
