高二英语任务型阅读专练一AParents are important elements in the childrens educational progress. They are capable of being good resources not just for children, but also for schools and teachers.Parents can help children realize the value of education through their love and support, and most importantly, their encouragement plays an important role in educational success. So parents can be more involved in childrens classroom activities. For example, parents can help out with teaching arts and crafts(工艺美术)to preschoolers and children in grades 1-3. Asking parents to show the children their own talents and impart(传授)the knowledge on the subject they love is a good way to involve the parents in their childrens education. And as a teacher, having someone on call to help you with the cutting and gluing(粘)during a craft class will ensure a less daunting(使人畏缩的)job.Having parent volunteers around when organizing activities for children is definitely an advantage. Organizing field trips, outings, community services, camps, etc., can be a daunting task when you are the only member responsible for catering to the needs of a large group of children. At such times, asking parent volunteers to help out with the basic requirements makes perfect sense. You can even ask them to stay together with students on camping and field trips or help with community services. And activities which allow them to mix freely with the children will help them understand the needs of the children better.Asking parent volunteers to keep records of classroom activities, the resources used, etc., is a good way of making good use of them. Ask them to help out with restocking(补充)the materials needed for arts and crafts. You can even ask them to help tune musical instruments, organize the library and the childrens artwork. Make sure that they are comfortable doing the work assigned(布置)to them, after all, you would not want to offend(冒犯)their feelings.School is considered as a second home, and there is a constant need to conduct research or surveys to find out whether the children are comfortable in school and what they think of it. A better way to do this is to employ parent volunteers to complete the task. Ultimately(最重要地), the goal of research or surveys is to make the school environment-friendly and home-like. Thus, it makes sense to conduct research or surveys with the help of parent volunteers. It goes without saying that you ought to thank the parent volunteers for all their help. To conclude, I agree with the saying, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, its the only thing that ever has.”How parent volunteers can help in classroom activitiesHelp in teaching arts and craftsParents can be asked to(1)._ their talents and knowledge with the children on the subject they love.Parents can help cut and glue in a craft class.Help in organizing activitiesParents can help take(2)._ for catering to the childrens basic needs during activities.Parents can(3)._ students on camping and field trips or help with community services.(4)._mixing with the children in activities can give parents a betterunderstanding of their childrens needs.Help in (5)._classroomactivities,etc.Parents can help restock what is(6). _for arts and crafts.Parents can help tune musical instruments, organize the library and the childrens artwork.Make parents feel it comfortable to do the assignments in order to(7)._their feelings being offended.Help in(8)._research or surveysParent volunteers can be employed to help find out the childrens feelings and (9). _ about the school. Both research and surveys are(10). _to make the school environment-friendly and home-like.BDid you know that falling down is the leading cause of injury death for Americans aged 65 and older? Each year 35 to 40 percent of older adult Americans fall at least once.Falling down is not just the result of getting older. Falling can be caused by a variety of circumstances, and many falls can be prevented. Here are 4 simple steps you can take to significantly reduce your risk of injury from falling down.Improve Your Body Balance with Exercise to Prevent Falling If you dont have a regular exercise program, start one. Lack of exercise leads to weakness, and that increases your chances of falling. Exercises can improve your body balance and flexibility at any age. Try exercises like Yoga and Tai Chi. If you are over 50 and havent exercised regularly, check with your health care provider about the best type of exercise program for you.Increase Your Homes Accessibility and Safety to Reduce Falling RisksAbout half of all falls happen at home. To increase accessibility and make your home safer: Remove items you might trip over from stairs and places where you walk. Remove small throw rugs(易滑地垫)or use double-sided tape to keep rugs from slipping. Have grab bars installed next to your toilet, and install grab bars in your tub or shower. Improve the lighting in your home. Make sure all stairways have handrails and sufficient lighting. Wear shoes that give good support and have thin non-slip soles. You might also consider avoiding lightweight slippers ( especially backless styles), which can reduce your feeling of control.Prevent Falling : Watch Out for Medication Side EffectsAge can effect the way some medications work in your body, so if you have been taking any over-the-counter medications for a while, its important to tell your health care provider. He or she will be able to tell you if they are still safe for you to take. Look out for drugs that have side effects including drowsiness(困倦). These side effects can increase your risk of falling . this especially important with over-the-conter cold and flu medications, which can often increase drowsiness. And dont forget herbal remedies(草药). Some remedies increase sleepiness and many react with other types of medication, which could increase your risk of falling down. Be sure to check with your health care provider before trying new medication.Want to Prevent Falling? Have Your Vision Checked RegularlyVision problems can increase your chances of falling. You may be wearing the wrong glasses that cause vision problems or limit your vision. To reduce your risk of falling , have your vision checked by an eye doctor every nyear for early detection and correction of vision problems. Its a good moment to reflect on what else we should be giving our kids as they head off to school.American parents are feeling particularly anxious about that question this year. The educational process feels more than ever like a race, one that starts in pre-preschool and doesnt end until your child is admitted to the perfect college. Most parents are more worried than they need to be about their childrens grades, test scores and IQ. And what we dont think about enough is how to help our children build their characterhow to help them develop skills like perseverance, grit, optimism, conscientiousness, and self-control, which together do more to determine success than S.A.T. scores or I.Q.There is growing evidence that our anxiety about our childrens school performance may actually be holding them back from learning some of these valuable skills. If youre concerned only with a childs G.P.A., then you will likely choose to minimize the challenges the child faces in school. With real challenge comes the risk of real failure. And in a competitive academic environment, the idea of failure can be very scary, to students and parents alike. But experiencing failure is a critical part of building character. A recent research by a team of psychologists found that adults who had experienced little or no failure growing up were actually less happy and confident than those who had experienced a few significant setbacks in childhood. “Overcoming those obstacles,” the researchers assumed, “could teach effective coping skills, help engage social support networks, create a sense of mastery over past adversity, and foster beliefs in the ability to cope successfully in the future.”By contrast, when we protect our children from every possible failurewhen we call their teachers to get an extension on a paper; when we urge them to choose only those subjects theyre good atwe are denying them those same character-building experiences. As the psychologists Madeline Levine and Dan Kindlon have written, that can lead to difficulties in adolescence and young adulthood, when overprotected young people finally confront real problems on their own and dont know how to overcome them.In the classroom and outside of it, American parents need to encourage children to take chances, to challenge themselves, to risk failure. In the meantime, giving our kids room to fail may be one of the best ways we can help them succeed.Back to School: Why Grit Is More Important than Good Grades?Common phenomenaParents throughout America(1) _ their kids backpacks up with snacks and school supplies
