2、ding part of unit 1 from the reading expert (level 5) which mainly talks about the life experience of beatrix potter, a fairytale writer. it is connected with students childhood, thus can raise their interest to learn。 students have to use skimming and scanning to understand the text, so there shoul
3、d be plenty of practice. 。 teaching objectsstudents at level 5 are always energetic, eager to learn and express themselves. also they have learned some basic words, which can help them to do a rough reading by themselves first and show their own opinions. while students at this stage are usually sca
4、tterbrained and naughty, and their english competence varies, the teaching content should be neither too difficult nor too easy and teacher has to consider how to draw their attentions。 。teaching objectives 1. knowledge objectives (1) to grasp new words: contribution, legacy, companions, amateur.(2)
5、 to understanding the text。(3) to have rough knowledge about foreign tales2. ability objectives students(1) can use new words to make sentences; (2) can use scanning and skimming to read text efficiently and answer relevant questions correctly.3. emotional objectives (1) to raise their aware of natu

7、aching approachestblt heuristic method. teaching procedure (45mins)step 1 warmingup (5mins)play a clip about benjamin bunny and give a rough introduction about the story, then lead to the writer - beatrix potter to introduce the protagonist and the main idea of the reading article。step 2 skimming (7
8、mins)ask students to read the first and the last sentence of each paragraph to finish exercise 5. if students can get the answer correctly, teacher continues to introduce the skill - skimming。 if they cant, teacher can correct them during the introduction about skimming.skimming: looking quickly thr
9、ough the text to get a general idea of what it is about.how to skim: usually read the first and the last sentence of the text or paragraph。 step 3 scanning (15mins) 1。 ask students to read the text and finish the table within 5 minutes。stages experiencechildhoodadulthoodwhen she died2. check the ans

16、you were to listen to his mother, you would think that terry fox was “a very ordinary young man。” yet the legacy of his short life has been anything but ordinary。 he has been the subject of two movies and two songs, has had a mountain named after him, and has appeared on the face of a coin. at the a
17、ge of 18, terry was diagnosed with bone cancer, and while having his leg amputated above the knee, the suffering of other cancer patients he had seen convinced him that he should do something。 so, he decided to attempt to raise funds for cancer research by, incredibly, running across canada and show
18、ing that he was no less of a man just 10 because cancer had claimed one of his legs。 on 12 april 1980, terry fox set out on his journey. beginning at st。 johns, his goals were to run to vancouver, a distance of more than 8,000km, and to raise 24 million in donations, one dollar for each canadian。 se
19、tting off on his journey with one natural and one artificial leg, fox somehow managed to cover a distance of 42km a day, approximately the length of a marathon。 after 143 days he was well over half way to achieving his goal of crossing canada, but that was to be his last day of running. terrys cance
20、r had spread to his lungs, and he, along with his dream of finishing his “marathon of hope,” was dying。 before passing away, he helped set up the terry fox run to commemorate his marathon of hope. each year people help raise funds for cancer research by collecting donations and running a short marathon in his memory. upon terrys insistence, the run is not competitive: there are no winners, no ribbons, no prizes. today his run is held annually in over 50 countries and has raised more than $300 m
