enteredabrainscanner.Inside,theywatched14shortmovieclips(片段),coveringdocumentaries,comedies,
debates,food,sportsandscience.Theresearcherstrackedactivityacross214brainregions.Eachstudent's
brainleftauniquesignatureofhowtheypaidattention,reacted,andinterpretedwhattheysaw.
Twomonthslater,allthestudentsintheprogramcompletedsurveysaskingwhotheyspentfreetimewith.
Theyrepeatedthesurveyssixmonthsafterthat.Theseresultscreatedalivingmapoffriendships—whobecame
close,whoseparatedandwhostayeddistant.Whentheresearcherscomparedthismaptothebraindata,
patternsappeared.Studentswhobecamefriendseightmonthslaterhadalreadyshownmoresimilarbrain
responsesbackatthestart.Thestrongestoverlap(重叠)appearedintheorbitofrontalcortex,aregionlinkedto
howweassignvalueandmeaning.
Interestingly,atthetwo-monthmark,therewasnobigdifferencebetweenthebrainsoffriendsandnon-friends,
meaningthatearlyfriendshipsmayformoutofconvenience—livingnearby,attendingthesameevents,orsitting
togetherinclass.Butastimepasses,peoplesortthemselvesout.Thosewithdeeperneuralsimilaritiesgrow
