Body/Kinesthetic Intelligence8. NatureVerbal/Linguistic IntelligenceAbility to use words and language. These learners have highly developed auditory skills and are generally elegant speakers. They think in words rather than picturesVerbal learnersSensitive to the meaning, order and sound of wordsGood with words, play with word soundsAvid talkers, good speakers, love to tell storiesWord GamesEnjoys Listening to and Reading StoriesWrite and/or dictate storiesRhymes, poetrySkills; listening, speaking, writing, story telling, explaining, teaching, using humor, understanding the syntax and meaning of words, remembering information, convincing someone of their point of view, analyzing language usageCareer choices: writer, public speaker, attorney, poet, journalist, actor, teacher, politician, translatorLogical/Mathematical IntelligenceAbility to use reason, logic and numbers. These learners think conceptually in logical and numerical patterns making connections between pieces of information. Always curious about the world around them, these learner ask lots of questions and like to do experiments.Logical/Mathematical LearnersAble to handle long chains of reasoningRecognize patterns in worldQuick to learn equivalenciesGood at solving number problemsEnjoys dealing with abstractionGood at puzzles and board gamesThink through steps of a problemWork well with computersSkills: problem solving, classifying and categorizing information, working with abstract concepts to figure out the relationship of each to the other, handling long chains of reason to make local progressions, doing controlled experiments, questioning and wondering about natural events, perforoming complex mathematical calculations, working with geometric shapes.Career choices: scientist, philosopher, engineers, computer programmers, researchers, accountants, mathematicians, economistMusical IntelligenceAbility to produce and appreciate music. These musically inclined learners think in sounds, rhythms and patterns, They immediately respond to music either appreciating or criticizing what they hear, Many of these learners are extremely sensitive to environmental sounds (e.g. crickets, bells, dripping taps)Musical LearnersGood sense of rhythm and soundAbility to create, organize rhythmically and compose musicPicks up melodies easily and remembers songsVery musical and loves to singSensitive and drawn to soundsSkills; singing, whistling, playing musical instruments, recognizing tonal patterns, composing music, remembering melodies, understanding the structure and rhythm of musicCareer choices; entertainer, musician, disc jockey, composer, singer, record producerVisual/Spatial IntelligenceAbility to perceive the visual. These learners tend to think in pictures and need to create vivid mental images to retain information. They enjoy looking at maps and charts, pictures, videos and movies. These learners express themselves through movement. They have a good sense of balance and eye-hand co-ordination. (E.g. ball play, balancing beams). Through interacting with the space around them, they are able to remember and process information.A fine-tuned ability to use the body and handle objects (fine and gross motor)Able to express emotions through bodily movementPhysical movement & danceTotal physical responseMime/ creative dramaSkills; dancing, physical co-ordination, sports, hands on experimentation, using body language, crafts, acting miming, using their hands to create or build, expressing emotions through the body.Career choice; athlete, dancer, actor, firefighters, physical education teachers, artisans (craftperson)Nature SmartThis intelligence refers to a persons natural interest in the environment. These people enjoy being in nature and want to protect it from pollution. Students with strong naturalistic intelligence easily recognize and categorize plants, animals, and rocks.Notice patterns easily from their surroundings Are interested and care about animals or plants. Like to be outside, or like outside activities Notice things in the environment others often miss. Create, keep or have collections, scrapbooks, logs, or journals about natural objects Are very interested in television shows, videos, books, or objects from or about nature, science or animals. Show heightened awareness and concern of the environment and/or for endangered species. Interested in and understand nature and the environment Skills: Keen sensory skills - sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. Use heightened sensory skills to notice and categorize things from the natural world. Easily learn characteristics, names, categorizations and data about objects or species found in the natural world. Career Choice: air quality specialist, animalhealthtechnician, anthropologist, astronomer, botanist, animal trainer, environmental lawyer, farmer, forest ranger, gardener, geologist, landscaper, meteorologist, nature photographer, park naturalist, veterinarian assistant, water conservationist, wetlands ecologist, wilderness doctor, wilderness guide, wildlife illustrator, gardenerHow Are You Smart?Multiple IntelligencesVisual Spatial Cinderellas glass slipper Drawings/Illustrations/Cartoons, Maps, Photographs, Posters Need to see things in order to learn about themBodily Kinesthetic Gym shoe Sports/Games, Field trips, Experiments, Dancing, ActingIntrapersonal Bedroom slipper Journaling, Creative, Poetry, Setting Goals for ThemselvesInterpersonal Football Group Sports, Group Games, Working in teamsVerbal Linguistic Tap Shoe Listening, Storytelling, Reports, Books, Speeches/JokesMusical Rhythmic Drum Major Music, InstrumentsLogical Mathematical Hiking Boot Calculations, Patterns, Timelines, Puzzles/MazesNaturalist Swimming Flippers Nature, Planting, Walking Outside, Forecasting the WeatherNatural Intelligence (Nature Smart)_has one or more pets_prefers to be outdoors_monitors, predicts changes in the weather_recognizes and knows names of flowers, trees, plants_likes to feed and handle hamsters, birds, horses, snakes_prefers stories about animals, natural phenomena (earthquakes, hurricanes)_collects and categorizes leaves, butterflies, insects, rocks_likes to garden, grow plants indoors_likes to fish, hunt, camp, hike nature trails_notices and recognizes animal tracks, nests, burrowsNaturalistic Intelligence (Nature Smart)Description: This intelligence refers to a persons natural interest in the environment. These people enjoy being in nature and want to protect it from pollution. Students with strong naturalistic intelligence easily recognize and categorize plants, animals, and rocks._ Caring for classroom plants._ Caring for classroom pets._ Sorting and classifying natural objects, such as leaves and rocks._ Researching animal habitats._ Observing natural surroundings. _ Organizing or participating in park/playground clean-ups, recycling drives, and beautification projects.Naturalistic learners, much like kinaesthetic learners, flourish from being able to touch, feel, hold, and try practical hands-on experiences, but generally outdoors within the environment, nature and animals. There are literally millions of ways to be Nature-Smart! Being Naturalistic generally means you are very interested and curious of your surroundings. Whether you like star-gazing, collecting bugs or rocks, gardening, looking after animals, cooking or even just playing out with friends, these are all ways of being Nature-Smart.If you are Naturalistic then you find that you learn best by having the hands-on approach, noticing and using your environment and by spending lots of time outdoors. You enjoy playing out and going on trips to learn about the animals and the environment. You probably keep or like pets, and dislike pollution and people that litter. Perhaps youre even a vegetarian. If you live in a city and find it difficult get involved with nature, perhaps you show your natural Nature-Smart instinct by collecting things, knowing the best short-cuts in your area, or remembering different names for the same animals.Good match careers would be:Landscaper, Gardener, Archaeologist, Farmer, Conservationist, Biologist/marine biologist, Animal Trainer/handler, Chef, Environmental inspector, Fisherman, Photographer, Vet, Zoo keeper or zoologist!Famous examples: Charles Darwin, E.O. Wilson.LogicalThey have a special awareness of nature. They instinctively recognize, understand and appreciate the patterns and relationships they see in nature. They have the ability to pick out details about birds, animals, stones, clouds, trees and plants, that others never see. They understand animals, how the weather works, and can cultivate beautiful gardens. This kind of intelligence is highly developed in people who depend on nature for their survival. But it is becoming more valued today, now that we are becoming increasingly sensitive to the needs of the natural environment around us.
