The pagoda was first built in 970 AD by the King of Wuyue State, and it was listed as one of the key national cultural heritages in 1961. Early in the Song dynasty, the famous poet Su Shi compared the lake to Xizi, a Chinese Cleopatra: Ripping water shimmering on sunny day; Misty mountains wonder in the rain; Plain or gaily decked out like Xizi; the West Lake is always alluring. So the Lake is also known as Xizi Lake. With an area of 6 square kilometers, and a circumference of 15km (9 miles). West Lake, surround in three sides by rolling wooded hills, has captivated countless visitors for centuries. The beauty of the West Lake lies in a lingering charm that survives the change of seasons in a year, of hours in a day, and of different weathers.15:50Arrive at the Xiaoshan International Airport. Lingyin Temple, or Temple of the Souls Retreat, got it name from its tranquil surroundings. Sheltered by forested hills on three sides, the temple is a quiet and sheltered sanctuary . Lingyin Temple is one of the largest and most visited Buddhist temples in China and holds the largest statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni in the lotus position.It was built in 328 AD by the Indian Monk Huili. It prospered and flourished during the Five Dynasties Period (907-960) when there were 9 buildings, 18 towers, 72 halls with 1,300 rooms and more than 3,000 monks. Over history, the temple has been damaged and undergone renovation several times. It has recently been rebuilt in its original style.Because of the cultural behind this temple, this temple becomes my favorite spot in Hangzhou. The temple consists of the Hall of the Heavenly King, Hall of the Great Hero, Hall of the Buddha of Medicine, East and West Winding Corridors and several other buildings. In the center of the Hall of the Heavenly King, sits a statue of Maitreya, the fat, bare-bellied Buddha with a smiling face-the laughing Buddha.
