兔子精神的致敬

NaamaSteinbock和IdanFriedman,出生于1975年。2022年共同创立了Reddish工作室。设计工作室主要从事家具、家居用品以及珠宝等设计。他们在设计中加入了刺绣、数字印刷、喷漆等实验性元素;于原有材质上简单添加彩线、铝、钢材等;又或者老家具新改造,种种实验性和趣味性的尝试,让其家居设计作品呈现出清晰形状、简单结构的风格特质。而这种特质又是如此让人容易亲近和引发共鸣,就如他们所言,“我们试图赋予我们的作品以特色,让它们自身看起来感觉更为良好。我们希望人们在使用的过程中能与它们建立各自不同的个人联系。也许只有这样,人们才不会像丢弃其他物品一样丢弃它们。”

M:WhatmakesyousetupReddishStudio?

N&I:Asamatteroffact,Reddishstudiowasalmostsetupbyitself.Whenwegraduatedfromtheacademywewereofferedtobepartofabigdesignprojectandworkedonittogether.Afteritendedwemovedontodevelopprojectsofourown,untiloneday,manymonthslater,someoneaskeduswhatisthenameofourstudio.Onlythenwerealizedwehaveastudio.

M:Inyouropinion,whatcharateristicsorimportantdesignelementsdoesIsraelihomedesignrepresent?

N&I:TheIsraelidesignsceneisfairlyyoungsincethecountryitselfisonly62yearsold,andwethinkthataffectsthelocaldesign.Sincetherearenodefinedtraditions,youcanfindintheworksalotofexperimentationsandplayfulness,andalsoversatileinspirationsources.Therearenorulestokeeporbreaksotheprojectstendtobepersonal.

M:WhatgreatchallengesdidyoumeetinyourhomedesigninIsrael?Haveyoueverhadthethoughtofsettingupastudioabroad?

N&I:ThemainchallengeinIsraelidesignisthatlackoflocalindustry,whichmakesproductionharderthenotherplaces.Butnonetheless,atthisstageinourcareer,wepreferstayinghereandfindnewwaystocollaboratewithpartnersabroad.

M:Weareespeciallyinterestedinyourartworkof“watership”,couldyoutalkaboutyourdesigninspirationwithus?

N&I:Naamahasawhiterabbitcollectionthatseemstocomeoutofnowhere.Bunniescrossherpathanywhereshegoes.WhenweworkedonourDovstoolscollection,wehandcarvedwhitepolystyrene,playedwiththematerialremainsandfoundourselvessurroundedbymorewhiterabbits.Wecastthoserabbitsinaluminumandnamedthem“Watership”,likethefamousnovel“WatershipDawn”byRichardAdams,toshowtheyarecomplexanimalsandnotthatcute.
