2、ties in learning English? Timed Essay: Tips Focus on your THESIS STATEMENT. If you write a good Thesis Statement, you can base your Topic Sentences in the Body Paragraphs, as well as the first sentence of your Concluding Paragraph on it. Keep track of how much TIME is left! Try to take a few minutes

3、 at the end of the exam period to read through your essay. Look for any spelling mistakes. Look at the transitions that you have used. General Notes Happy with how you organized and structured your essays. Introduction finished with your thesis statement; explained your reasons well. I wanted to giv

4、e you some confidence that you can write a well-structured essay. Thesis Statement THESIS STATEMENT: specific and focused on the issue that you want to discuss the LAST sentence in your Introduction Good example: “For me, the two main difficulties in learning English are vocabulary and a lack of nat

5、ive speakers to practice with.” Weaker example: “We have all faced many difficulties.” Topic Sentences The Topic Sentence in a Body Paragraph should be clear and direct, so that the reader knows what you will discuss. Examples: “My main problem in learning English is ” “A lack of speaking practise i

6、s the second” “Another big difficulty for me is” “Firstly, the huge number of words in English” Concluding Sentences The Concluding Sentence in a Body Paragraph refers back to the Topic Sentence. Examples: “Thus, one of my main problems is ” “In short, the lack of speaking practise is another ” “In

7、summary, not having an English-speaking environment” “Therefore, my poor listening comprehension is a reason for “ Difficulties Again, your essays were written fairly well. Main difficulties discussed: Poor environment to practice speaking; lack of native speakers around you. Very little speaking ti

8、me in class while in middle school. Exams are based on Writing and Reading, and thus, there is no focus on Speaking. A few items And / But / Or / So DO NOT begin a sentence with one of these words! Good, clear handwriting bi j is important. With a few essays, I had some problems reading your words and paragraphs. Please keep this in mind

Difficulties Vocabulary: too many words in English too many forms of verb and nouns different verb tenses difficult to remember words when you do not use them regularly very similar sounds between different words learning vocabulary is BORING Number 1 issue that I ha

11、ve heard from my students: “My spoken English is very poor, so Im too scared / nervous to speak.” “I dont want to make a mistake, so I never speak. Overcoming Shyness This is really up to YOU! If you really want to improve your speaking, you have to SPEAK. :-) There is no simple way around it. It is
