Unit 2 重点词汇:1. voyage n. 航行;航海常用搭配:go on a voyage 出航、出国旅行 be on a voyage 在航行相关词汇:voyage多指不论距离长短的海上旅行或者是空中旅行journey可数名词,常指远距离的陆上旅行Trip指短距离的旅行tour巡回旅行,常指在不同的地方旅行之后,又回到原出发地之意Travel指长距离旅行或国外旅行expedition指有特定目的的远征或者是探险2. actually 事实上、实际上/竟然e.g. The big-boned boy actually cried in front of so many people.相关短语:in fact/ as a matter of fact3. basevt. 以为根据(常与 on / upon 搭配)e.g. The film Aftershocks is based on a true story.常用搭配:baseon 以为根据/基础 be based on/upon 相关词汇:Base基础、根基 ,通常是指很具体的Basis多指很抽象的4. latter 较后的;后半的;(两者中)后者的e.g. Of English and French, I prefer the latter one.常用搭配:the formerthe latter 前者后者e.g. There are two desks in the room . The former is yellow, the latter is red.相关词汇:late adj&adv . 迟(的),晚(的) later adj. 后期的;较后的;adv.后来,较晚 latest adj. 最新的,最近的 lately adv. 最近,将来5. however 然而、但是要点:however 可以当做副词用,可以置于句首、句中或句末,用逗号与其他部分分开。e.g. Sometimes I feel exhausted working in New Oriental school, however, I enjoy it. Sometimes I feel exhausted working in New Oriental school; I enjoy it , however. however: 无论如何也,不管怎样也,此时,however也可以引导让步状语从句,相当于“no matter how”,后面可以接上副词或者是形容词 e.g. However how hard it is, I believe that I can overcome it .6. over 相当于“during”,意味“在期间;直到过完” e.g. Can you stay over the Middle-autumn Day? 超过,相当于“more than” e.g. Vivian looks very young. As a matter fact , she is over 40. 结束,完结,相当于end. e.g. They have broken up . This admirable relationship is over. 7.communicate 传达、沟通、交流、传播常用搭配:communicate sth. to sb. 将某事通知给某人 communicate with sb. 与某人取得联系相关词汇:communication 传达、交流情况;通信 be in communication with sb. 与某人交流 8. present adj. 现在的;出席的;到场的 常用搭配:be present at the meeting 出席会议 be present to 出现在 at present 目前、现在 注意:(前置定语) 现在的、当前的 e.g. present situation (后置定语) 出席的、到场的 e.g. the people present v. 赠送 常用搭配:present sth to sb. 把某物赠送给某人 Present sb. with sth.9.rule vt.& vi 统治;支配;管辖 n. 规则;习惯;统治 常用搭配:rule a country 统治一个国家 Keep/obey a rule 遵守规则 break the rule 打破规则 as a rule 通常,一般来说 by rule 按照规则 make it a rule to do sth. 习惯做某事10.expect (理所当然地)期望;预料;预期;认为 常用搭配:expect sb. to do sth. 期望(预料)某人做某事 expect to do sth 想要(打算)某人做某事 相关词汇:expect主要是指心理状态,含有“期盼”的意味wait for指一种行动,只要是指什么都不干而专门等10.request n&vt 请求、要求 常用搭配:request sth. of/from sb. 向某人请求某物 request sb. to do sth 请求某人某物 at ones request 应某人的要求 注意:在含 request 的表语从句、同位语从句中应用“should +do”结构,其中should 可以省略。 近义词汇:mand n.命令、指令、掌握 vt.&vi.命令、指挥、支配 常用搭配: have a good command of 精通 at ones command 随心所欲的 be in command of 统帅 be under the command of 由指挥 command sb. to do sth. 命令某人做某事 注意:从句中使用虚拟语气,从句中用“should + 动词原形”,其中should 可以省略 12polite 有礼貌的、客气的 常用搭配:be polite to sb 对某人有礼貌 It is polite of sb. to do sth 某人做某事是有礼貌的13. recognize Vt.辨认出、识别出;承认;公认 常用搭配:recognize sb to be 承认某人是 be recognized as 被认为是 相关词汇recognize原来很熟悉,经过一段时间的间隔后或别的原因之后有重新认识Know延续性动词,指互相间十分熟悉,十分了解14.direction n. 方向;指示;指导;说明书 常用搭配:in one direction 朝某一个方向 under the direction of sb. 在某人的指导下 under ones direction 在某人的指导下 follow ones direction 听从某人的指示15 official 官方的;正式的;公务的 相关词汇:normal 正常的 formal 正常的;正式的 regular 常规的16 Conquer 远征;占领 相关词汇:occupy ; capture; take up17. apartment; flat 公寓; 套房house单门独户的房子,一层或多层都有可能flat单元房公寓 18 Identity 身份;本体 相关词汇:identification (certification) Qualification19. separate 分开; 搭配:separate A from B 把A和B分开 近义词:separate把两个独立的物体分开divide把一个整体分成几个部分;divideintoisolate把隔离开来20 expect 固定搭配:expect sb. to do sth.重要短语:1. more than 与数词连用,相当于“over”,超过、多过e.g. Miss Peng is more than 30, but she looks so young.与名词、副词、形容词、动词等连用时,意为“不只是,非常”e.g. I think their relationship is not simple as they said. They are more than friends.2 . be different from 和不同 相关短语: the same as 和一样3.because of 介词短语,在句中作状语,意为“由于、多亏” 相关词汇:thanks to owe to as the result of on account of6. come up重要含义:(人)走近、上来 e.g. This superstar came up to me and said hello to me. (太阳、月亮)升起 e.g. The sun has come up. Its time to work now.(议题、话题)被提出讨论e.g. The question came up at the meeting again.产生、发生 e.g. Ill let you know if anything comes up.出席、参加相关短语:come up with 提出想法7. make use of 利用、使用 ;相当于 take advantage of e.g. We must make good use of the present chance.相关短语:make full/good/the most/the best of 好好利用/充分利用 In use 正在用;通用 use up 用完,耗尽 out of use 不再使用,弃而不用 be of use 有用的,起作用的8. such as 例如;像这种的 相关词汇such as主要是用于列举,相当于likefor example用于举例说明,通常只举一例,可用于句首、句中和句末,往往用逗号和被举的例子9 .the number of 的数量/数目 相关词汇:a number of“许多,很多”,一般用来修饰可数名词,谓语动词用复数形式the number of后面接可数名词,谓语动词用单数the amount of“的数量”,后面接不可数名词10.make sense 有意义,能理解;合理,有道理,讲得通e.g. What you have just said makes no sense.相关词汇:make sense of 理解的意义;理解11.play a part in 在中起作用,在中充当什么角色,相当于 play a role in 相关短语:play a part/role of 扮演的角色 take part in 参加12. believe it or not 插入语,信不信由你13 a number of 许多 the number of 的数量重要语法:1. when 和while 的区别并列连词从属连词While表示转折对比,译为“而”“在什么时候,只能和延续性动词连用 When意为“这时”,相当于 at that time“在什么时候,可与连续性动词,也可以和终止性动词”2. 直接引语是祈使句的转换规则当祈使句做直接引语表的是要求、命令时,变间接引语的时候通常用tell/order/command sb. to do sth.的形式e.g. “Get up”mother said/转:Mother told me to get up. 若祈使句做直接引语表示的是请求的时候,变成间接引语的时候通常用 request/beg/asks sb. to do 。祈使句中的please在间接引语中必须省去。 e.g. “Please dont be late for the opening ceremony”he said.转: He asked me not be late for the opening ceremony.3.直接引语是疑问句时的转换规则当有些疑问句并不是用来询问,而是表示请求或乞求,这种问句变间接引语时常用ask/ beg/request sb.to do sth.e.g. He asked,“Can you give me a lift?”转:He asked me to give him a lift.若疑问句表达的是“建议、劝告”等含义,则采用advise sb. to do sth.或者是suggest doing的形式e.g. “Why dont you have a break now?” she said.转:She advised me to have a break now.3. 直接引语是感叹句时的转换规则 直接引语是感叹句时,间接引语可以由what, how或 that 来引导,仍用陈述语气。e.g. She says ,”What a handsome boy he is”转:She said what a handsome boy he is.She said that he is a handsome boy.相关练习:1.
