My topic is “the English and afternoon tea”.There are three parts, the first is The current situation of tea; the second is The origin of afternoon tea; The last one, I will show more details for you. English people have the habit of drinking tea. In any factory, school or office, there is a time for tea in the morning and the afternoon on that is called Tea Break. During the Tea Break all the work is dropped. According to statistics n. 统计 English people consume one-fourth of tea in the world every year that is known as the biggest tea consumption.So, we can draw a conclusion. The origin of afternoon tea.- The custom of taking afternoon tea is believed to have been first introduced in England in 1840 by Anna, the Seventh Duchess of Bedford. At that time lunch was taken early and dinner was not served in the evening until about 9 pm. The Duchess apparently became hungry in the afternoon and asked for some tea, bread and butter and cake to be brought to her room. This soon became a habit and the Duchess started to invite friends round to join her. Very quickly it became fashionable to take tea in the middle of the afternoon and the occasion became more and more elaborate with the use of elegant tea ware, lace and embroidered table linen, bone china tea services, cake stands, tea canisters and blending bowls. 茶是17世纪前,据说是查理二世王后凯瑟琳带来的;下午茶是Anna公爵夫人开创的,然后从上流社会到平民百姓的流行起来。在历史演变过程中,也不断出现了变化、But, there are several names for afternoon tea.
