Lead-in 1. Some tips to learn English wellEnglish is important in the modern world. It is spoken all over the world. But a few students dont learn English well. So they want to drop English. I suggest that you shouldnt give up English, because English is used in many countries as the firstorsecond language. Most business letters are written in English. It is helpful for you to work in the future. If you dont know English, you will fall behind others in future.How can you learn English well? First, you should persevere. Its true that English is sometimes really very difficult for us. But if you have a good method of learning, I think you will be good at it. Both English listening and speaking are the most difficult for almost every beginner. Sometimes, it seems impossible to learn. But I think if you do a lot of practice, you will make progress, you should speak more and listen more often. Youd better speak English with your classmates as often as possible not only in class but also out of class. I advise you to listen to some English programmes over the radio and learn some English songs through MP3/MP4 everyday. Then you will travel and live in the world of English. Typical sentence structures（1）be worth sth/doing sth 值得The coat is worth the price. 这件大衣值这个价。English is worth studying. 英语值得学习。比较：be worthy of sth.; be worthy to be doneThe work is worth the time. = The work is worthy of the time. 这项工作值得花那么多时间。The problem of greenhouse effect is worth discussing. = The problem of greenhouse effect is worthy to be discussed. 温室效应的问题值得讨论。（2）not only but also 不但而且We not only underwent hardships, but also risked our lives during adventure. 在探险中，我们不但经历了困难，而且冒着牺牲生命的危险。说明：not only but also引导并列句从句，有时also 可以省略，还可以发生变异：not only but as well; not only放在句首时，谓语要部分倒装。 Not only can we gain experience from the travel, but we can get valuable knowledge as well. 我们不但能从旅行中增加阅历，还能获得宝贵的知识。（3）feel like sth/doing sth 真想做； 有的冲动；想要He felt like beating someone after long hours of staying in the dark room. 在黑暗的
