worldwide engineering standards test procedure interior gmw14613 generic inspection procedure, inspection per engineering drawing or specification copyright 2005 general motors corporation all rights reserved december 2005 originating department: north american engineering standards page 1 of 4 1 scope note: nothing in the specification supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless specific exemption has been obtained. note: in the event of conflict between the english and domestic language, the english language shall take precedence. 1.1 purpose. to provide a means for documenting the results of inspections per engineering drawings or specifications performed by engineering persoone1 when evaluating whether requirements listed in technical specifications are met by the product design. 1.2 foreword. “inspection“ is one of the four methods of validation cited in vdp. (vehicle development process.) during the course of conducting product programs, engineering personnel may be able to inspect various types of engineering documentation to determine whether technical specification are met by the product design. it is anticipated that this procedure will not be used for product performance related technical requirements (i.e., 0 to 60 time). this procedure provides a mechanism for describing the basic methods to be followed and documenting the results to ensure that requirements designated .for validation via “inspection“ are properly validated to. 1.3 applicability. passenger cars, light trucks, subsystems and components. this procedure is not intended to replace the product design compliance report (pdcr) process or engineering judgment letters. this procedure is not for comparing the part dimensions to its drawing specifications. 2 references note: only the latest approved standards are applicable unless otherwise specified. 2.1 external standards/specifications. none 2.2 gm standards/specifications. none 2.3 additional references. gm reference manual for legal standards, by nao safety and restraints center, safety affairs and regulations. international regulations regulatory guidelines, by international regulations, gm environmental & energy staff. 3 resources 3.1 facilities. not applicable. 3.2 equipment. not applicable. 3.3 test vehicle/test piece. not applicable. 3.4 test time. not applicable. calendar time: days test hours: hours coordination hours hours 3.5 test required information. not applicable. 3.6 appropriate technical specifications, engineering specifications and drawings and any other supporting documentation as required. 4.2 conditions. not applicable. 4.2.1 environmental conditions. not applicable. 4.2.2 test conditions. deviations from the requirements of the procedure shall have been agreed upon. such requirements shall be specified on component drawings, test certificates, reports, etc. 4.3 instructions. cite the specific engineering drawing or engineering specification name and number, revision level, date, etc. on the attached data sheet. reference the technical (vcri). indicate whether the engineering documentation supports the conclusion that the technical specification requirement is met in whole or in part by this evaluation. complete all applicable fields in the dm sheet and sign and date. if tests, demonstrations or analyses of physical test properties must be included to complete the evaluation, indicate on the attached data sheets. 5 data record pertinent test results on the supplied data sheets. 5.1 calculations. not applicable. 5.2 interpretation of results. not applicable. 5.3 test documentation. not applicable. 5.4 legal requirements. this procedure may be used to document the inspection results against several types of requirements from the technical specifications. as such, one or more of the following disclaimers may apply. the motor vehicle safety standard (mvss) requirements in this section are given only for convenience and may have been summarized from the gm reference manual for legal standards, as published by the nao safety and restraints center, safety affairs and regulations. the “gm reference manual for legal standards“ contains the most recent statement of mvss requirements and supersede those in this section. guidance for interpreting mvss requirements may be obtained from safety affairs and regulations. the export vehicle requirements in this section are given only for convenience and may have been summarized from the international regulations regulatory guidelines, as published by international regulations, gm environmental & energy staff the regulatory guidelines contain the most recent statement of export requirements and supersedes those in this section. guidance for interpreting export requirements may be obtained from international regulations. 5.5 general information. record pertinent inspection results on the supplied table. 5.5.1 reference vehicle, subsystem or component technical specifications. 5.5.2 the following is an estimate on the amount of time (work-hours) needed to perform this procedure. consider information investigation and analysis of data in capturing a total calendar time. drafting resource: tbd hr(s) engineer resource: tbd hr(s) total calendar duration: tbd day(s) 5.5.3 uniform parts code(s). upc comprehended in this procedure include codes as applicable and may vary from execution to execution depending upon the requirements being evaluated. 6 safety this procedure may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. this method does not propose to address all the safety problems associated with its use. it is the responsibility of the user of the method to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 7 notes 7.1 glossary. analysis.: a. simulation of the product (or its functions) or manufacturing process under the specified conditions using mathematical representation. (e.g., mathematical models, algorithms, equations), in accordance with a procedure, and documenting the results, b. the generation of conclusions through the examination of data. demonstration: exercising the product or manufacturing process under specified conditions, in accordance with a procedure, and documenting the results. inspection: examination of the product or manufacturing process. in accordance with a procedure, and documenting specified physical characteristics. requirement (technical): clear and verifiable statement of what is wanted or what is to be accomplished. specifically, elements of product performance, function or design that must be satisfied to achieve the stated objective of the vehicle program. requirements are functional (design to“) specifications as opposed to criteria which are physical (“build to ) specifications. test: exercising the product .or manufacturing process, under specified conditions, in accordance with a procedure collecting quantitative data via instrumentation and documenting the results. validation: the formal process of confirming, through analyses, demonstrations, inspections, and for tests, that a requirement is met. gm worldwide engineering standards gmw14613 copyright 2005 general motors corporation all rights reserved december 2005 page 3 of 4 7.2 acronyms, abbreviations, and symbols. mvss motor vehicle safety standard pdcr product design compliance report vcri validation cross reference index vdp vehicle development process 8 coding system this standard shall be referenced in other documents, drawings, vts, cts, etc. as follows: test to gmw14613 9 release and revisions 9.1 release. the standard originated in october 20
