中国文学作品充满了艺术想象力和审美情趣，这些是难以以别国语言再现的， 一旦翻译过来，很多原汁原味的语言与文化特色也就消失了。中国古典名著红楼 梦就是很好的例子。作者曹雪芹对中国语言的精湛运用及对中国封建文化生动翔 实地展现造就了红楼梦在文坛的独特地位。而中西两个民族间语言和文化的差异 使得红楼梦的翻译十分具有挑战性。目前最具权威性的两个全译本分别是由杨宪 益戴乃迭夫妇所译的ad r e a mo f r e dm a n s i o n s 和大卫霍克思及其女婿闵福德所译 的t h es t o r yo f t h es t o n e 。基于不同地对象和目的，两译本中运用了不同翻译策略， 恰好为翻译研究提供了很好的材料。 通过对红楼梦两个英译本的研究，本文旨在揭示不可译性理论在翻译中的具 体体现，指出不可译性客观存在于翻译中，以期引起更多译者的关注。 本文在第一章引言中首先简要介绍了研究目的和文章整体框架。第二章回顾 了不可译的理论发展史，简要介绍了古典名著红楼梦及其最具权威的两个英文译 本，以及对红楼梦翻译研究的现状。第三章阐述可译性与不可译性是相辅相成的， 它们都具有相当深厚的理论基础，并系统介绍该文的理论框架不可译性及相关翻 译理论。第四章从语言和文化两个方面研究分析红楼梦二译本中具有代表性的例 子。通过对二译本的比较研究，指明翻译的可译性限度在某些情况下是一个不可 避免的客观事实。本文第五章指出由于两种语言和两种文化间存在的巨大差异， 在红楼梦翻译中，语言形式和文化信息都会存在某种程度的遗失。但是归化和异 化两种翻译策略均可在不同方面在翻译中对不可译性进行补偿，以最大化可译性 程度。最后，结论部分总结全文。 可译性与不可译性是相对的，动态的。本文作者通过对其的分析以期更多译
