He surprised his landlord by telling him that he was leaving because he could not afford to buy any more chocolate. It all began a year ago when Albert Hall returned home one evening and found a large dog in front of his gate. He was very fond of animals and as he happened to have a small piece of chocolate in his pocket, he gave it to the dog. The next day, the dog was there again. It held up its paws (爪子) and received another piece of chocolate as a reward. Albert called his new friend Bingo. He never found out the dogs real name, nor who his owner was. However, Bingo appeared regularly every afternoon and it was quite clear that he liked chocolate more than bones. He soon grew dissatisfied with small pieces of chocolate and demanded a large bar a day. If at any time Albert couldnt give it, Bingo got very angry and refused to let him open the gate. Albert was now at Bingos mercy and had to buy him to get into his own house! He spent such a large part of his weeks wage to keep Bingo supplied with chocolate that in the end he had to move somewhere else.(10分)1、1.Albert had been living in the same district for _.(单选题)DA、many weeksB、under twenty yearsC、all his lifeD、more than twenty years2、2.Albert decided to move because _.(单选题)CA、he didnt get along well with his landlordB、he was afraid of animals, especially dogsC、he couldnt get into his own houseD、he was not satisfied with that district3、3.Bingo waited for Albert every afternoon at the gate because _.(单选题)BA、he wanted some bonesB、he wanted the chocolateC、he liked AlbertD、he had no other place to go4、4.We can tell from the story that _.(单选题)DA、Albert could afford to buy a large bar of chocolate for Bingo every dayB、Albert didnt like animals any more from then onC、all dogs are excessiveD、it took Albert too much money to buy chocolate for Bingo5、5.Albert had to buy him means _.(单选题)CA、Albert had to embrace himB、Albert had to drive him awayC、Albert had to give him chocolateD、Albert had to call the police to take him away2、Like many of my generation, I have a weakness for hero worship. At some point, however, we all begin to question our heroes and our need for them. This leads us to ask: What is a hero? Despite huge differences in cultures, heroes around the world generally share a number of characteristics that instruct and inspire people. A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a story of adventure to tell and a community who will listen. But a hero goes beyond mere fame. Heroes serve powers or principles larger than themselves. Like high-voltage transformers (变压器), heroes take the energy of higher powers and step it down so that it can be used by ordinary people. The hero lives a life worthy of imitation. Those who imitate a genuine hero experience life with new depth, enthusiasm, and meaning. A sure test for would-be heroes is what or whom do they serve? What are they willing to live and die for? If the answer or evidence suggests they serve only their own fame, they may be famous persons but not heroes. Madonna and Michael Jackson are famous, but who would claim that their fans find life more meaningful? Heroes are catalysts (催化剂) for change. They have a vision from the mountaintop. They have the skill and the charm to move the masses. They create new possibilities. Without Gandhi, India might still be part of the British Empire. Without Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr., we might still have segregated (隔离的) buses, restaurants, and parks. It may be possible for large-scale change to take place without leaders with attractive personalities, but the pace of change would be slow, the vision uncertain, and the committee meetings endless.
