A few weeks ago, my readers voted on whether healthy foods are more expensive and if thats one reason why so many people dont keep a healthier diet. Some of the comments were very good, but there were plenty of readers who had no reason for not buying healthy foods. We have a little more information to go on now thanks to a new study. Here are some of the interesting facts from the study: The dietary guidelines recommend nine servings of fruits and veggies a day. People with higher incomes are more likely to meet these dietary recommendations. People who make less than $25,000 a year eat only about five servings a day. Low-income neighborhoods often have higher food prices, as these neighborhoods often have fewer and smaller supermarkets, which charge more. It costs about 17-19% more to eat healthier choices (e.g., whole-wheat instead of white bread, nonfat dairy products, etc.). On average, low-income families would have to devote 43-70% of their food budget to meet the fruit and veggie dietary guidelines. From these facts, its easy to see why choosing healthy food isnt always an option. So whats the answer? Would lowering prices solve the problem or would people still keep eating the same way? Should we tax unhealthy foods to make them less appealing? Should we educate people on how to budget their money so they can afford healthy foods? Leave a comment and tell us what you think below.56. The main idea of this passage is that _.A. people should try to meet the dietary guidelines to keep fitB. people are getting fatter as they eat too much junk foodC. price is the reason why so many people dont keep a healthier dietD. we should educate people on how to budget their money57. However, the reality of its introduction to me, here in London, is something that I will never forget. It was just an ordinary day in January 2003. After my English classes, I went to work at the beauty salon. Nothing out of the ordinary was predicted weather-wise on TV. In the afternoon, some clients who were visiting the salon were talking about the temperature outside. I did not pay attention. At about 6 pm, I finished my work and decided to make my way home. As I stepped outside, I noticed it was snowing. I was amazed at the snowflakes. Not expecting such weather, I was not wearing the proper clothes. I tried to walk to the bus stop, but it was difficult. My shoes got wet when I fought to keep my stability. The wind became increasingly stronger. But the bus took me to Warren Street Station, anyhow. I got off the bus. I had to cross the road to get to the underground. Suddenly, a very strong blizzard (暴风雪) like a tornado came. I whispered silently, “God help me!” Then help came to me in the form of an elderly black man, who guided me to the nearest tree. I held onto the tree as if it was the love of my life. What was disappointing was that the fashionable black hat, which was a present from my boyfriend, was blown off by the wind directly onto the road when I was holding onto the tree, but I was still excited. I cannot remember clearly how I got home. Thinking back, I arrived at Highgate Tube Station and from there walked to Muswell Hill, where I lived at that time. Since the buses had been cancelled, I arrived home at midnight. What I really learnt is that snow looks much better on postcards than in reality.69.
