A visual feast of magnificent scenes such as Diecai Pavilion, Wind Cave and Cloud-Catching Pavilion, along with countless stones with inscriptions created by famous Chinese scribes, awaits your eyes.Well, so much for my brief introduction of the hill I hope you have enjoyed it. Here we are, at the entrance of the Diecai Hill park .lets take a walk in the park, I will give you more detailed information.Through the gate of Diecai Garden, within a few steps of the southern foot of the hill, you will first reach the distinctive Diecai Pavilion, occupying an area of about 64 square kilometers (15,815 acres) on the hillside of Bright Moon Peak. 5 meters (16 feet) high, 7.5 meters (25.6 feet) long and 8.5 meters (27.9 feet) wide, it is surrounded by Bright Moon Peak to the north, Siwang Hill to the west and Yuyue Hill to the east. Although only a single storey high, it is well designed and elaborately built with red poles, green tiles, and four unique angles. Your fantastic journey will start from here.After Diecai Pavilion, you will see a stele commemorating the two loyalists Qu Shisi and Zhang Tongchang of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The Wind Cave, which the wind blows through in all seasons, waits for you a little further along. This cave penetrates Bright Moon Peak, with a wide mouth protruding from either side of the slope and a narrow part in the middle. What makes it famous is the changing temperature of its winds. Whatever the weather is outside, a cool breeze is always blowing in the Wind Cave. For this reason it is known as the Cool World by many people. The cave is worth a visit not only for its winds but for its rock carvings, both inside and outside of the cave. Nearly 100 Buddha images of the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties, as well as 210 stone carvings, can be found here. If you are interested in Chinese calligraphy and want to experience the peculiar nature of this remarkable cave, now is your chance!After some more steps, and a journey through more marvelous landscapes, you can congratulate yourself as you reach the top of Bright Moon Peak. This is where the Cloud-Catching Pavilion, a building with a round shape, single eave and a pinnacle, is located. No other place offers you a better vantage position to admire the picturesque Li River, as well as the magnificent city of Guilin in its entirety. Now, it is 260 kilometers to the south of Nanning and it can be conveniently reached either by express bus or by train. Frienship pass is a 4 storied structure, 22meters high. It is a symbolic gateway to China, 18 kilometers southwest of the city proper of Pingxiang. It was built like an ancient city gate. The ground floor is a solid wall with the arched gate open in the middle. The pass used to be called Zhennan meaning guard the South for Pacification.Sometimes, we can not get peace or balance without the use of force, through eternal peace is not available with the use of force. It was one of the nine important passes in ancient china.The other eight passes are: Shanhai Guan zijing Guan in Hebei province, Jiayu Guan in Gansu province, Pingxing Guan , Yanmen Guan and Niangzi Guan in Shanxi province, Juyong Guan in Beijing, Wusheng Guan in Henan province. Those nine passes were very important trade centers as well as military checkpoints and transportation centers. It was here that the army of the Qing Dynasty won a great victory in the Sino-French War. In march 1885,the French army launched an attack against China from Vietnam at the South Pacification Pass. General Feng Zicai ,a native of Guangxi and commander of the Qing army from Qinzhou city armed with spears, swords and bows and arrows to fighe against the french invaders armed with guns and cannons.The pround French army did not take general Feng and his men as something. The major force of french armytraced the Chinese and got too close to the Chinese soldiers when they arrived at the foot of the wall of the pass,where Chinese soldiers surrounded them.Soldiers from the two sides mixed with each other. So,cannons kept quiet while the so-called cold Weapons were quicker and more powerful in the face to face fight than the hotheapons. French soldiers abandoned their weapons and gone. The french fled helter-skelter out of the pass,evidence of the battle can still be seen today.This is the only victory won by our Chinese among the battles against foreigninvaders during the Opium War. In order to show friendship and good neighborliness,the name of the pass was changed into South Befriending Pass and then into Friendship pass. National defense facilities were built to protect China even in the Qing dynasty. Sprawling along the border is a long chain of undulating mountains,where many checkpoints have been set up. Most of the battlements were installed for the purpose of defense against invasion by the French colonialist army in the Qing dynasty. The most famous ones are those on Jinji Mountain. (Jinji means Golden Rooster) Golden Rooster Mountain is on the western side of the Frienship Pass , and it rises 511meters above the sea level. A Chinese general of the garrison force nemed Su Yuanchun knew its commanding height in this area sheer cliffs on every side of this strategically situated mountain. Soliders om the top of this hill could control the whole area easily with one or two cannons.The three peaks of the mountain stands like the legs of a tripod,making the mountain easy to defend and difficult to attack. Three battlements, named them the Central,The south and the North Pacification battlements,were built on each of the three peaks after the Sino-French War by Mr. Su Yuanchun. And I d like to give you some brief introduction of it.About 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) from Elephant Trunk Hill and above the western bank of Li River Scenery , there towers Fubo Hill, another of Guilins wonderfully scenic spots. It reaches the height of 213 meters (698.8 feet) and emerges 62 meters (203.4 feet) above the water. Half of it stands in the river and the other half of it on land. Since the galloping water is always blocked here and eddied, the hill is considered to have the power of subduing waves. Moreover, it was on this hill that a temple in commemoration of General Fubo was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), which gave rise to the name Fubo Hill.Well, so much for my brief introduction of it I hope you have enjoyed it. A gracious cloister and tearoom were built on the southern slope. Halfway to the hill is the Tingtao Pavilion (Pavilion of Listen-to-Waves). Stone stairs wind up towards the hilltop on the western slope of the hill. The Viewing Platform on the stairway is an ideal spot for taking in the panorama of Guilin.CloisterThe Cloister lies on the second terrace of the hill and combines the first and second terrace in an ingenious manner. In the well-tended garden by the cloister, trees and flowers grow prosperously. In front of the garden lies a pavilion which features a more than 300-year-old iron boiler which weighs above 1,000 kilograms (2204.6 pounds). It is said that it can boil enough food for one thousand people. Therefore, it was given the name Thousand-People Boiler. When wandering alongside the cloister up to the third terrace, it is possible to rest in the tearoom featuring a court.Pearl-Returning CaveEntering the cave by boat on the green Fubo River, visitors are given the opportunity to appreciate the charming rock and stalactites and the interior statues. Most of the statues were engraved in the later Tang Dynasty by use of finished techniques, and subsequently became precious Buddhist artworks.There are many different and interesting legends about the Pearl-Returning Cave. One of them tells that after the triumph of war, General Fubo retreated to the court, bringing herbs by boat. However, on the way, he was framed so as to have wringed pearls put in the boat. To clear the matter, he poured all the herbs into the Fubo River and returned the so-called pearls. Hence, the cave was named Pearl-Returning Cave. Another legend suggests that a peasant picked a great glittering pearl from the cave and angered the Dragon King. The peasants neighbors advised him to return the pearl at once, and so he did. Thus, the Dragon King stopped raising the devil waves, and humans lives became peaceful once more. To memorize the event, people entitled the cave Pearl-Returning.Sword-Testing RockInside the Pearl-Returning Cave, a breathtaking sight is hidden - the Sword-Testing Rock. It is a huge stone pillar hanging down with a large upper body and a smaller lower end. Seen from afar, it may look like a pillar plunging from the ceiling into the water surface. At a closer look, surprisingly, it actually hangs at a distance of 1 cun (a Chinese unit of length, 1 cun equal to 1.3 inch) above the water and seems to be cut by sharp sword. If you are curious, you can get close to it and touch the rummy rift.Legend has it that the General Fubo tested his sword on the rock, which gave it its present shape. When the general negotiated with the offenders in the Pearl-Returning Cave and reached a deadlock, he drew the sword and cut rocks off the huge pillar. The opponents were startled and immediately retreated.How far do you want us to turn back? they asked. Back to where my arrow falls. the general replied steadily.Ok, we agree. Let us then see how far it will fly.General Fubo climbed up to the Fubo Hill and shot his arrow, which flew a distance of three hills till it landed on the field from which the offenders had originally come. The offenders retreated as agreed. From then on, the rock was known as Sword-Testing in honor of the valiant general.Geographically speaking, the rift belongs to the terrane of limestone. Streams flow along it and cause corrosion, and a rift was thus formed. Today, since there is no more corrosion, the pillar cannot produce any deposits, and the rock will retain its odd shape forever.Thousand-Buddha CaveConnecting with the Pearl-Returning Cave, the Thousand-Buddha Cave lies hidden in the hill. It has three levels with a total area of 133 square meters (159 square yards). Visitors climbing up along the winding stairs will find themselves attracted to the 239 statues of Buddha in 36 enshrines from the later Tang Dynasty situated on the upper level, along with mural paintings from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). All of the artworks bear exquisite carvings. Among them, a curiosity can be found - a painting of Mi Fu, a renowned artist, done by the artist himself, because few of Mi Fus works are intact today.Li River CruiseLadies and gentlemen,Welcome to our voice tour,today we are taking li river cruise.The poetic and picturesque Li River originates in Mountain Maoer (Cat) at Xinan county about 80 km in the northeast of Guilin. It winds and meanders its way for 170 kilometers, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo to the outlet of Gongchen river in Pingle county and then joins the Xi River, which is the upper reaches of Pearl River. The 83-km-long section from Guilin to Yangshuo has the best scenery and is the masterpiece of Li River, decorated with rolling hills, steep cliffs, fantastic caves, leisurely boats and lined bamboos, which constitute a fascinating hundred-kilometer picture gallery. Gorgeous Karst pinnacles give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Its banks are covered with lush bamboo and luxuriantly green woodsOur whole Li River cruise may be divided into three sections.The first part is from Guilin to Ox Gorge; the second part from Ox Gorge to Water-Dropping Village and the third part from Water-Dropping Village to Yangshuo. From Guilin to Ox Gorge (Total 46km; 4 hours voyage) The first part is from Guilin to Ox Gorge; After boating out of Guilin city, comes the Elephant Trunk Hill and Pagoda Hill. Downstream a while, two hills named Chuanshan, on the east bank and, Gamecock Hill across the river with a moon-shaped cave, resembles a pair of fighting roosters, hence the name Rooster Fighting Hill. Southward, Jingping Hill (Clear Vase Hill) jumps into your eyes, elegant and simple, like an overturned vase lay in water. Rafting downstream from Jingping Hill, on the banks near Daxu town, a range of hump-like peaks rises steeply- famed as Forest of Odd Shaped Peaks. It is a typical Karst land formation in Guilin. At the spot where the Li River meets Liangfeng River lies Father and Son Hill. The name comes from the two human-like stones on the hill, which according to legend is a man that refused to build boats for a landlord and instead sheltered himself in a cave with his son. South of Father and Son Hill is Millstone Hill where a dock situates 28km from Guilin and where 3,000,000 people pass through annually. Boating south from this dock, and passing Nine Dragons Playing the Water, the ship enters the Ox Gorge, where the next highpoint of the trip arrives. From Ox Gorge to Water-Dropping Village (Total 17km; 40 minutes voyage) After passing the Ox Gorge, the water becomes calm and wide. Wangfu Rock, a human-shaped rock, stands on the west bank of Li River as the first scenic spot in this section. Boating south, about 29km from Guilin, is Caoping Village where the famous Crown Cave locates. Continue south for about 10km is Half-side Ferry. Different from other ferries, the ferries of these two villages are in the same side instead of two sides. Boating south one would see a group of peaks in various shapes rising out of the river. About 61km from Guilin and on the east bank of Li River lies Mural Hill. It was said that nine horses were contained in this huge painting, and anyone who can tell all of them would be the Number One Scholar. Going downstream and turning right is Yellow Cloth Shoal, where is the best place to view the reflections in the water. Xingping town is the place where the second section basically comes to end. From Water-Dropping Village to Yangshuo (Total 20km; 2 hours voyage) Snail Hill, with a huge vein spiraling up from the bottom to the top, situates near Li River like a huge snail. Passing it, the boat straightly advances toward Yangshuo, where is the termination of this exciting cruise. About 2 hours later, the boat is near Yangshuo. A dragon-head-shaped hill stands by the river welcoming the tourists to this town. Yangshuo is an enchanting town, where the limpid water, verdant pinnacles and hillocks, and spectacular caverns compose a captivating tableau. Green Lotus Peak, Schoolboy Hill and Snow Lion Ridge add more charm to this beautiful town. No wonder people often say: Guilin has the most beautiful scenery in China, and Yangshuo is the most beautiful part of Guilin. The best suitable time to tour Li River is flood season, which covers the period from July to November in each year. Normally, visitors get on boat out of Guilin City in the morning and get off in Yangshuo in afternoon. The local travel branches have prepared many bus taking visitors back to Gui
