Have a discussion with your partner on arranged and love marriages. You may refer to the following outline:1. Define marriage, arranged marriage, and love marriage in your own words.2. Take China for example, why did parents in the past like to arrange marriages for their children?3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of arranged and love marriages respectively?Your answer:Reference answer:1. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman approved by law. Marriages can be divided into arranged marriages and love marriages. An arranged marriage is a marriage in which the parents choose the husband or wife for their child. A love marriage is a union of two individuals based upon mutual love, affection, commitment, and attraction.2. Arranged marriages are found in cultures in which the extended family is common. In extended families, marriage is inevitably a family affair, and individuals are expected to conform to the overall wishes of the group. Parents would like to provide their children with protection, wealth, security, and happiness, and they might assume that children are inexperienced in life, so they would rather select marriage partners for children.3. Love marriages offer more independence and freedom as compared to arranged marriages. In arranged marriages, there is a pressure to conform to parental expectations like producing a male heir, taking part in family rituals and traditions, putting up with sisters-in-law, contributing to family expenses, etc. Love marriages provide time for a mutual understanding between the partners. Knowing somebody before marriage allows partners to have better respect and understanding for each others needs and desires. Then they are better adjusted in the marriage when they finally take their wedding vows. Love and romance are necessary conditions for a successful marriage, while there is no dating or romance before the wedding in an arranged marriage. However, arranged marriages offer more protection and security to the women. Parents employ mature and wise judgment when choosing suitable spouses for their children.B. Story dictationListen to a story and fill in the missing words. The story will be read three times. The first and the third times it will be read at normal speed, and the second time there will be a 10-second pause for each missing part. Now listen to the story:We met on a blind date. For me, it was love at first sight. He was perfect. He was my Prince Charming. (1)(I was a terrible romantic when I met him and I gave up my heart)the day he smiled at me. The first time I saw him, he was dressed in a tuxedo. His skin was dark like brown sugar and his black hair was combed into car
