next.-我说完了 -下一位it is obvious to me that the boys entire story was flimsy.很明显地那孩子的说词 根本都是在瞎编he claimed he was at the movies.他说案发时他在看电影yet he couldnt remember the names of但他完全想不起来the films he saw or who played in them.那部电影跟演员们的名字- thats right. - and no one saw him at the theatre.-没错 -没有人看到他进出电影院and the woman across the street住在对街的那个女人if her testimony dont prove it, nothing does.所做出的证词呢?thats right. she actually saw the killing.她看到他杀人fellas, please. lets go in order.好了 请大家照顺序来just a minute.等一下heres a woman whos lying in bed. she cant sleep.案发时这个女人 躺在床上 她睡不着shes dyin with the heat.她热到受不了 你明白吧?she looks out the window,她从窗户往外看and right across the street she sees the kid stick the knife into his father.看到那孩子 将刀子插进他父亲的胸口the time is 12:10 on the nose.时间是十二点十分 everything fits. shes known the kid all his life.完全吻合 她是看着那孩子长大的his window is opposite hers across the el tracks.他家跟她家只隔了一条电车轨道she swore she saw him do it.她目睹他杀人的经过through the windows of a passing el train.当时刚好有一列电车经过this el train had no passengers on it.这辆电车上没有乘客it was just being moved downtown.它是要开到市区去的the lights were out当时车上的灯光全暗and they proved in court that律师证明了at night you can look through the windows只要灯光是暗的 透过电车车窗and see whats happening on the other side. they proved it.你可以看到另一边的景象id like to ask you something.我想问你一个问题you dont believe the boy.你不相信那孩子how come you believe the woman?为什么会相信这个女人呢?shes one of them too, isnt she?她跟他是一样的youre a pretty smart fella, arent ya?你以为自己很聪明 对吧?ok, gentlemen. now, gentlemen.各位come on, sit down. sit down.好了 坐下吧whats he so wise about?他有什么好得意的?come on. now were not gonna get anywhere fighting.好了 我们不是来吵架的whose turn is it next?现在轮到谁了?oh, his. number five.轮到他了 他是五号may i. can i pass?我可以弃权吗?well. thats your privilege.那是你的权利how about the next gentleman?下一位oh. well.i dont know. i started to be convinced, you know,我不知道 打从一开始very early in the case.我就相信他有罪you see, i was looking for a motive.我一直在寻找他的犯罪动机thats very important because这真的很重要if you dont have a motive, wheres your case, right?没有犯罪动机 案子就无法成立anyway, that testimony from those people住在那孩子家对面的人across the hall from the kids apartment.在法庭上做出的证词that was very powerful.非常有力didnt they say something about a fight, an argument何况他们提到死者跟他儿子between the old man and his son around about seven oclock that night?约七点时曾发生过争吵i could be wrong but.或许我错了 但我- it was eight oclock, not seven. - thats right.-是八点才对 -没错they heard an argument,他们听到了争吵声couldnt hear about what.却听不清楚到底发生了什么事then they heard the father hit the boy twice.他们听到死者 打了他儿子两下finally they saw the boy run, angry, out of the house.他们看到那孩子愤怒地冲出家门what does that prove?那能证明什么呢?it dont prove anything. its just part of the picture.那无法证明任何事 那只是事实的一部份you said it provided a motive.你说那证明了凶手有杀人动机i dont think it was a very strong motive.但我觉得这样的动机不够强烈this boy has been hit so many times that violence is practically.这孩子常常被打its a normal state of affairs with him.暴力对他来说是司空见惯的事i just cant see two slaps in the face我不觉得被打了两个耳光p
