2019高考英语考前50天(阅读理解)训练秘笈(2)及解析AI still clearly remember that day. I was on the side of the road for about four hours with my big jeep. I put signs in the windows that said, “Need a jack (千斤顶). ”As I was about to give up, a truck stopped and a man got off. He looked at the situation, made a judgment and went back to take a jack. After about two hours, we finished the job with sweats. We were both dirty. His wife took a large bottle of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put $20 in the mans hand, but he wouldnt take it, so I went to give it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked their little girl where they lived, thinking maybe Id send them a gift. She said they lived in Mexico. They were in Oregon now, so Mommy and Daddy could pick cherries for the next few weeks. After that, they were going to pick peaches and then go back home. After I said goodbye and started going back to my jeep, the girl ran to me and handed me a tamale(玉米粽子)for lunch. I thanked them again and walked back to my jeep. When I opened the tamale, what did I find inside? My $20! I ran to the truck and the guy rolled down his window. He started shaking his head, smiled, and with what looked like great concentration said in English, “Today you, tomorrow me. ” Then he drove away, with his daughter waving to me from the back. This family, working on a seasonal basis where time is money, took a couple of hours to help a stranger while others passed by quietly. Since then Ive helped many people like the Mexican family. I didnt accept their money. Every time I was able to help,I felt as if I was putting something in the bank. 36. From the passage we can know that _. The frequency with which it is borrowed mirrors a heated debate on environmental protection: whether to place wilderness at the heart of what is to be preserved. As John Sauven of Greenpeace UK points out, there is a strong appeal in images of the wild, the untouched; more than anything else, they speak of the nature that many people value most dearly. The urge to leave the subject of such images untouched is strong, and the danger exploitation(开发) brings to such landscapes(景观) is real. Some of these wildernesses also perform functions that humans needthe rainforests, for example, store carbon in vast quantities. To Mr.Sauven, these ”ecosystem services” far outweigh the gains from exploitation.Lee Lane, a visiting fellow at the Hudson Institute, takes the opposing view. He acknowledges that wildernesses do provide useful services, such as water conservation. But that is not, he argues, a reason to avoid all human presence, or indeed commercial and industrial exploitation. There are ever more people on the Earth, and they reasonably and rightfully want to have better lives, rather than merely struggle for survival. While the ways of using resources have improved, there is still a growing need for raw materials, and some wildernesses contain them in abundance. If they can be tapped without reducing the services those wildernesses provide, the argument goes, there is no further reason not to do so. Being untouched is not, in itself, a characteristic worth valuing above all others.I look forwards to seeing these views taken further, and to their being challenged by the other participants. One challenge that suggests itself to me is that both cases need to take on the question of spiritual value a little more directly. And there is a practical question as to whether wildernesses can be exploited without harm. This is a topic that calls for not only free expression of feelings, but also the guidance of reason. What position wilderness should enjoy in the preservation of the world obviously deserves much more serious thinking.67. John Sauven holds that_. Many people think that they have to accept whatever life throws at them. Theyll say, This is my fate, my destiny.I cannot change it.Of course not! You dont have to suffer needlessly.Your destiny depends on you, not on any other external factors.I know someone who says she just accepts what life gives her because she has done everything she can to improve it. Guess what her lifestyle is? She wakes up in the morning, goes to work, comes back home, relaxes, chats with people, watches TV, then goes to sleep.Next day, the same routine cycle follows.Huh! Is this what she calls doing her best? She believes she has tried her best and just accepts it in her heart that this is the life that God has intended for her to live; that her luck can only change if God wills it. Of course God wants us to be happy and live our life to the fullest, but we have to do our share of exerting (运用) the effort to live the life of our dreams.Remember that you harvest what you sow. You just dont sit around and wait for a million dollars to fall from the sky. You have to get off the couch, get your eyes off the TV screen, get your hands off the phone. Dont expect your luck to change unless you do something about it. If something goes wrong, dont just regard it as a temporary setback; but use it as feedback. Learn your lesson, make the most of the situation, and do something to solve the problem. Its not enough to think positively; you also have to act positively. If someones life is in the trouble, do you just hope and pray that things will turn out fine? Of course not! You get to do anything you can to save the person. So it is with your own life. It is not enough to hope for the best, but you have to do your best. In other words, dont just stand (or sit) there, do something to improve your life.71.According to the woman mentioned in Para.3, her life _. A. Almost half of them have at least one part-time job. In fact, one of my students has three jobs. And she still manages to have high scores and go to school full-time. ”Textbook prices are traditionally high. Adding to that problem, many college teachers change textbooks year after year;they either upgrade to a new edition or switch to an entirely different textbook. This further hurts students because if an instructor no longer uses a particular textbook, that book has no resale value. Dr. Jason decided to make reading a little easier and a lot cheaper for his students by writing his own book on public speaking. “Many books have an increased price because of CD-ROMs,lots of color photographs and pictures. I talked to my students, and many of them, like me,prefer to keep things simple! So,a few years ago,I wrote my own textbook. Compared to most other public speaking books, mine is half the number of pages, and one-third the price. That is,$30 instead of $90. When I wrote a second edition last year, students only had to buy the 35 new pages, For only $7. 00,they had almost a new book. Now my loose-leaf textbook enjoys great popularity among the students. Maybe in the future more writers and publishers will try it. ”40. What did Dr. Jason say about students at college? A. They are short of money. B. They need better textbooks. C. They should do part-time jobs. D. They are trying to get high scores. 41. What did Dr. Jason decide to do to help the students? A
