。 My views on intercultural communication and cultural shock1.Intercultural communication Intercultural communication involves communication between people from different cultural backgrounds and different nations. Intercultural communication is various and these cultures and communications have very important influences one to another. With development of our society, its more easier for us make friends with some people, who are come from the western societies. During the communication, we can find that there are a lot cultural differences. People cant catch every meaning precisely from each other. Take a common example, there are different attitudes towards privacy in western and Chinese , we know that, in China, when people meet each other, they naturally talk about their names, age, salary, marriage and so on. While in west, people are unwilling to talk about those, even sometimes they will feel offended because they think those topics are as privacy. They prefer prefer the topic about weather when they start talking. Once we chat with a person from different culture which we dont know well, we may quickly realize that how distinct the ways of thinking, chatting, and acting we have. Maybe we can call it the distinction of a culture. One special thing that people must carefully cope with, for unsuccessful intercultural communication usually resulted in unsuccessful, so attention is forced to to be paid to intercultural communication. After I did some research in library, I know that intercultural communication in China has a short history. And professor XuGuo zhang was the first who wrote about cultural loading words. Many articles also written on intercultural communicationWas was set up in 1995.The scholars involved in this field of study include the teachers of foreign languages, teachers of Chinese as foreign language, linguists. As intercultural develops faster and faster ,we must study intercultural communication hardly. Because we want to communicate more effectively with people form other cultures, if we are ignorant of other cultures, we just talk to them like to Chinese ,forgetting their cultural backgrounds, we are likely to make mistakes .But if we remember their culture differences, bear in mind that we have take their culture into consideration then we are less likely to make mistakes.2.cultural shock Cultural shock refers to the phenomenon that a person from one culture is likely to suffer many differencesin adjusting to the different patterns of behaviors and customs.when moving to a place of different culture. One of the most common causes of cultural shock involves individuals in a foreign environment. Culture shock can be described as consisting of at least four distinct phase:honeymoon, negotiation, adjustment, and adaption. When moving to a new country, people often might love the new food, the peace of life, and the locals habits, at first, they are may fascinated by the new culture. But after some time, differences between the old and new culture become apparent and may create anxiety. The most important change in the period is communication: People adjusting to a new culture often feel lonely and homesick because they are not yet used to the new environment and meet people with whom they are not familiar every day. The language barrier may become a major obstacle in creating new relationships: special attention must be paid to ones and others culture-specific body language signs, conversation tone, customs, and false friends. Slowly, they start to develop problem-solving skills for dealing with the culture and begins to accept the cultures ways with a positive attitude. The culture begins to make sense, and negative reactions and responses to the culture are reduced.3.My own experienceWhen I first left my 15-year lived hometown Xinjiang went for further education to Guangzhou, I still remember how exited I was. But soon after my attitude changed sharply. I realized that I had just passed the Honeymoon Stage and became inimical to the cultural shock. On our campus, there is no doubt that we all Chinese, but sometimes we also cannot understand each other clearly. At first I should solve the language problem. Since I have been learning Chinese for 10 years, I dont think the question worth discussing. However,I found native speakers use totally different vocabulary and sentence. So I found it not easy to fit in new circumstance. Luckily, I adjust myself and began to acknowledge their culture and try to have fun communicating with native students, soon after I became speak Chinese fluently and I really feel relaxed living in Guangzhou. Im proud of myself have the courage to face cultural shock which is essential to most people. From this experience I learned that respect is a important way of crossing the cultural shock. If we feel exclusionary at first, we can blend ourselves into the society. As long as we act in a proper way, filling ourselves with energy to study,we will cross over the hard time and be pleased what we get at last.4.How to deal with intercultural and culture shock To handle with these problems, I think firstly we should respect other cultures. Different cultures have different features, though different, theyre all treasures of human intelligent and stand for the development of civilization. And then its better for us to learn more about other cultures. Once knowing more, we can understand others better and make less mistakes when communicating with
