The Use of Textbook: Mike Ebbers, Wayne OBrien and Bill Ogden, Introduction to the New Mainframe: z/OS Basics M,/redbooks, 2008. Course DescriptionThe course “Introduction of New Mainframe and z/OS” is a selective course for the students of School of Software. The credit and week hours of this course are both 3, and the total hours is 54. The object of this course is teaching basic knowledge of the new mainframe system of IBM and its operating system z/OS. The first part of this course is an introduction the applying fields, development history and architecture of the new mainframe. The second part describes the basic concepts and knowledge about the new mainframe operating systems. The third part introduces z/OS operating system in detail, which content about the main modules, functions, operating skills, JCL and VSAM datasets etc. Based on this course, the students can learn advance knowledge about application programming, how to admin a mainframe system etc. . Teaching Objective and PrerequisitesThe aims of this course are to enable students to know the applying fields, development history of mainframe, master the architecture of hardware system, basic concepts, characteristics and functions of mainframe. This course enables students to learn basics of the new mainframe operation system z/OS and its operating skills, such as datasets management, the JCL language and programming with it. Finally, in this course, students must grasp how to use the IBM personal communication tools.
