Call for Applications for the 7th Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Young Overseas Joint Research FellowshipThe Young Overseas Research Fellowship System was established based on a fund created by a donation from Dr Nam-Hai Chua, winner of the 21st International Prize for BiologyThe Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Young Overseas Joint Research Fellowship accepts applications at most twice each year, in May and November, with the JSPP Award Committee selecting one or two winners from among the membership every year. Those members, both within Japan and abroad, are invited to apply based on the following:Overview of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Young Overseas Joint Research Fellowship Application(JSPP Fellowship)SummaryIn order to foster an international perspective in young researchers, the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists recognizes superlative young researchers and supports their short-term joint projects in overseas research facilities, through the Nam-Hai Chua Fund. Description1. Doctoral candidates, doctorate researchers, young faculty and researchers, etc., who are members of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists shall receive support from the Nam-Hai Chua Fund for travel and living expenses associated with a joint research project to be undertaken abroad within a three month period. 2. The grant limit shall be 1 million per applicant, with as many as two applicants selected each year.Selection1. A call shall be made for joint research proposals, to include a detailed implementation thereof, a history of research undertaken to date, results expected from the joint research, a history of contacts with the overseas facility, etc.2. The JSPP Award Committee shall select the most deserving joint research topics from among those submitted.3. Upon selection by the JSPP Award Committee and the approval of the Executive Council, the applicant shall be permitted to submit a grant application in conjunction with the detailed description of his or her joint research.4. Upon confirmation of the grant application, the final amount of the grant shall be decided by the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologistss directors such that the selected joint research might be undertaken as quickly as possible.5. Selected researchers must implement and complete their joint research between 1 July 2009 and 30 June 2010.6. Should the joint research be unable to be performed, the grant shall immediately be returned to the society.Acknowledgements and Responsibilities1. The researcher selected by the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists shall be designated a JSPP Fellow at the annual meeting.2. Upon completion of the joint research, JSPP Fellows shall be required to present their findings to the society with a written report submitted within two months of said researchs completion. In addition, any papers published with regard to said research shall indicate receipt of this fellowship grant among any acknowledgements therein.Applications1.
