So what do you expect him to say? He will probably say ,“Fine ,Im all right.”but youve put a bug in his earmaybe now he is not sure .If you are a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk, that he overlooked that morning .It starts him worrying a little. First thing you know ,he looks in a mirror to see if everything is all right ,while you go merrily on your way asking someone else, “How do you feel?”Every question has its time and place. It is perfectly acceptable ,for instance, to ask “How do you feel?”if you are visiting a close friend in the hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs ,hurrying to catch a train, or sitting at his desk working ,it is not time to ask him that silly question. When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays was in his eighties, someone asked him“How do you feel?” Shaw put him in his place. “When you reach my age, ”he said ,“either you feel all right or you are dead.”1.According to the writer ,greetings such as“How do you feel?” . A. cheerfulness B .humor C. ability D. politeness5.The passage can be entitled . A.A Misplaced Question B. Dont Trouble a Business Man C .What are Good Greetings D. George Bernard Shaws Reply Passage BScratchy throats, stuffy noses and body aches all spell misery, but being able to tell if the cause is a cold or flu may make a difference in how long the misery lasts. The American Lung Association has issued new guidelines on combating colds and flu, and one of the keys is being able to quickly tell the two apart. That is because the prescription drugs available for the flu need to be taken soon after the illness sets in. As for colds, the sooner a person starts taking over the counter remedy, the sooner relief will come. The common cold and the flu are both caused by viruses. More than 200 viruses can cause cold symptoms, while the flu is caused by three virusesflu A,B and C. There is no cure for either illness, but the flu can be prevented by the flu vaccine, which is ,for most people ,the best way to fight the flu, according to the ALA.But if the flu does strike ,quick action can help . Although the flu and common cold have many similarities, there are some obvious signs to look for.Cold symptoms such stuffy nose, runny nose and scratchy throat typically develop gradually, and adults and teens often do not get a fever. On the other hand ,fever is one of the characteristic features of flu for all ages. And in general, flu symptoms including fever and chills, sore throat and body aches come in suddenly and are more severe than cold symptoms. The ALA notes that it may be particularly difficult to tell when infants and preschool children have the flu. It advises parents to call the doctor if their small children have flu like symptoms. Both cold and flu symptoms can be eased with over the counter medications as well. However, children and teens with a cold or flu should not take aspirin for pain relief because of the serious condition of the liver and central nervous system. There is ,of course , no vaccine for the common cold . But frequent hand washing and avoiding close contact with people who have colds can reduce the likelihood of catching one.1.According to the author ,knowing the cause of the misery will help . A .shorten the duration of the illnessB .the patient buy medicine over the counterC. the patient obtain cheaper prescription drugsD. prevent people from catching colds and flu2.We learn from the passage that . A. one does not need to take any medicine if he has a cold or flu B. aspirin should not be included in over the counter medicine for the flu C .delayed treatment of the flu will harm the liver and central nervous system D. over the counter drugs can be taken to ease the misery caused by a cold or the flu3.According to the passage ,to combat the flu effectively, . A. one should identify the virus which causes it B. one should consult a doctor as soon as possible C. one should take medicine upon catching the disease D. one should remain alert when the disease is spreading 4.Which of the following symptoms will distinguish the flu from a cold? A.A stuffy nose B.A high temperature C.A sore throat D.A dry cough5.Children have flu-like symptoms, their parents . A. are advised not to give them aspirin B. should watch out for signs of Reye syndrome C. are encouraged to take them to hospital for vaccination D. should prevent them from mixing with people running a feverPassage CHenry Ford ,the famous US inventor and car manufacturer, once said, “The business of America is business.”By this he meant that the US way of life is based on the business world.Few would argue with Fords statement .A brief glimpse at a daily newspaper vividly shows how much people in the United States think about business. For example ,nearly every newspaper has a business section, in which deals and projects ,finances and management ,stock prices and labor problems of corporations are reported daily. In addition, business news appear in every other section, Most national news has an important aspect to it .Welfare ,foreign aid, the federal budget ,and policies of the Federal Reserve Bank are heavily affected by business .Moreover ,business news appears in some of the unlikeliest places. The world of arts and entertainment is often referred to as “the entertainment industry”or“show business”.The positive side of Henry Fords statement can be seen in the prosperity that business has brought to US life .One of the most important reasons so many people from all over the world come to live in the United States is the dream of a better job. Jobs are produced in abundance because the US economic system is driven by competition. People believe that this system creates wealth, more jobs ,and a materially better way of life. The negative side of Henry Fords statement, however, can be seen when the word business is taken to mean big business. And the term big business -referring to the biggest companies, is seen in opposite to labor. Throughout the US history working people have had to fight hard for higher wages, better working conditions, and the right to form unions. Today, many of the old labor disputes are over, but there is still some employee anxiety .Downsizing_ the laying off of thousands of workers to keep expenses low and profits highcreates feelings of insecurity for many.1. The United States is a typical country . A. which encourage free trade at home and abroad B. where peoples chief concern is how to make money C. where all businesses are managed scientifically D .which normally works according the federal budget2.The influence of business in the US is evidenced by the fact that . A. most newspapers are run by big businesses B. even public organizations
