Today well learn something about birds. Do you like birds? Are they beautiful?Method 2: T: Hello,everyone! Here are some posters of birds. What can you see in the poster? Do you think it is beautiful?Step 2 : Presentation 1. Ask students if they know the meaning of “birdwatching”. help them find the answer by asking some questions:What does a birdwatcher do ?Where do they usually watch the birds?Then the teacher tells students that birdwatching is to watch birds in nature, and birdwatcher is the person who watches birds.2. Tell students Eddie is going birdwatching tomorrow.T: Do you know where he is going to watch birds?Which bird do you think he likes?Play the tape for the students to listen to and find the answers.3. Check the answers. Play the again. Get the students to listen and repeat.Step 3: Practice 1. Divide students into pairs or groups to practise reading the dialogue.2. T: Does Eddie like real birds?Note : duck: 可数名词,表示“鸭子”。 不可数名词,表示“鸭肉”Step 4: Presentation 1. Show the picture of a sparrow.T: What bird is this? What do we call it in Chinese?Then the teacher writes “sparrow” on the blackboard and gets the students to read it.2 . The teacher shows a big picture of a bird and ask : What do we call these parts?Help students to answer: beak,neck,wing,tail, leg feather.Teach the new words.3.Describe the bird.T: What does a sparrow look like? Is it big or small? Does it have beautiful feather? What colour are the feathers? What about the beak? Is it short or long?4.Teach the other birds: crane, swan, eagle.Step 5 : Activities1. Practise reading the new words until they can grasp them.2. Discussion.A: Which bird do you like best?B: I like . best.A: Why?B: Because it .3. Divide students into four groups. One students shows the picture and the others tell its name as quickly as possible.4. Divide students into pairs or groups. One of them gives the description of a bird, the others guess what bird it is.E.g. The bird has colourful feathers. It can learn to speak or ding. What bird is it? (The parrot.)Step 6 : DialogueListen and repeat the dialogue on page 69, and then work in pairs to talk about the birds they like, using the information in Part A.Step 7: Homework1. Remember the names of different birds.2. Practice the dialogue.8A Unit 6 BirdwatchingReadingTeaching aims1. To understand the reading passage about a nature reserve-Zhalong Nature Reserve by guessing the meaning of some important words.2. To develop the students ability of reading. 3. To identify the main points of the reading passage.4. To encourage the students to protect birds and nature.Teaching contentWords : nature, protect, cover , wildlife , round, while, easily, space, farm, government,tourist, importance, active, wet, perfect, percent.Phrases: Nature Reserve, all year round, provide .for. ,a short stay, have space for, as a result, understand the importance of ., lead to , stop .fromSentences: It is one of the worlds most important wetlands. Many birds live in Zhalong all year round,while some go there only for a short stay. Some people want to make the wetlands smaller in order to have more space for farms and buildings. This will lead to less and less space for wildlife. We hope this will help understand the importance of the wetlands.Difficulties and key points1. Listen carefully!It often swims in the lake and it has long thin neck and its feathers are white. What is it?S: Swan. T: Yes, you are right. Its a swan. Would you like to see swan? OK, lets look at the screen. (Show the beautiful birds in Zhalong.)Step 2 : Presentation 1. Ask students to look at the picture and think why Zhalong is a special place.2. Let students go through the passage with time limit.Tell them to understand the general idea.Then ask them ti tell others what this article is mainly about.3. Ask students to read the passage again and show them some questions on the blackboard. Where is Zhalong? Why is it important?4. Check the answers.5. Play the tape. Do the exercise in Part B4 on page 72.6. Play the tape again. Get students to listen and repeat. Then do the exercise in Part B3 on page 72.Step 3: Activities 1. Divide students into groups. Practise reading.One students reads one paragraph, the others listen and point out the mistakes.2. Write some of the words and phrases on the blackboard and then ask students to retell the passage by using these words. E. g Paragraph 1 : Nature Reserve , in north -east China, we lands, provide food and cover for, an ideal home.3. Finish the exercises left in Reading.4. Have a discussion about what we can do to protect the birds.5. Divide the class into pairs. One acts as an interviewer, the other is an interviewee. Talk about the situation of Zhalong and what actions we can take to protect these birds.Step 4 : Homework 1. Remember the important words and phrases.2. Show more examples about “to”-infinitives used as adverbial of purpose on the screen. Let students think about these examples. 2. Read through the sentences in Part A in page 73 with students.3. Explain the usage of the phrases “in order to do sth.” and “so as to do sth.”Step 4: Practice 1. Do the exercise in Part A on page 73.2. Check their work and let them practice reading these sentences. Step 5: Presentation 1. Show some sentences including “to”-infinitives used as object complement to students and give them a few minutes to observe them.2. The teacher and students discuss the usage of “to”-infinitives used as object complement.Step 6: Learning and practice1. Go through the model sentences in Part B on page 74 and think about the usage of the “to”-infinitives.2. Help Sandy complete her notes, using the right word forms.3. Practice reading the notes,Step 7 : Homework 1. Revise the usage of “to ”-infinitives.2. Help the students finish the test.Step 3 : Listening and practice 1. play the recording for students ,ask them to listen to the tape.2. Check the answer they chose.3. Let students listen to the tape again and finish Part A3. then check the answers and explain some language points.E.g. prevent .fromStep 4 : Activities1. Ask students if they are more interested in Yancheng Nature Reserve now and if they want to go birdwatching there. Tell them that they must make full preparation.2. Write down these nouns for people.2. Get students to read through these words.Step 3: Discussion 1. Divide the whole class into several groups and discuss the rules of forming new nouns.2. Get some students from each group to present their resultsto the whole class, the teacher help them summarize the rules.Step 4: Learning 1. Read through “Suffixes -er, -or, and -ist” and learn more about word formation.2. Get students to complete the practice in Part A on page 77. Step 5: Practice Give students some minutes to complete the sentences with the correct nouns of the words in brackets in Part B on page 77. Then check their work.Step 6: BrainstormingGet students to think about this kind of word formation, then ask them to give examples.E. g: do doer, profess professor , physics physicist Step 7: Homework1.
