With the development of communications, especially the development of wireless communications, wireless network became the hot topics of computer network research.This course will teach the hot topics in network research, and analyze some real system. This course is not so much about the nuts and bolts of networks, but rather focuses on how to do network research.It will introduce active research areas in the field of networking. This year, we target: wireless networks and Internet protocols.Course Outline A. Wireless Networks Ch1 Wireless cellular systems (1G, 2G-GSM/CDMA, 3G, 4G) Ch2 Wireless LANs and MAC layer protocols (IEEE 802.11/WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee) Ch3 Ad hoc wireless networks (routing, multicast, network coding, ad hoc TCP, DTN)Ch4 Sensor networksB. Internet protocols Ch5 QoS (QoS, Traffic modeling, BW estimation / congestion control / TCP, QoS routing) Ch6 Internet Architecture Lectures, Paper review 25*/ 50 (Students are expected to read papers before the class, submit a review in Chinese for each paper) (3 ref files), HW, programming/experimentGrading (MS.): Paper review & homework 40%Programming/experiment 10% Final exam 50% References: 1. SIGCOMM, MOBICOM, INFOCOM, ICC, GLOBECOM-Review Structure1 to 2 page of text (2 - 4 paragraphs) Longer reviews are generally given for better papers, shorter reviews for bad papers1 paragraph executive summary what is the paper trying to do? what is potential contribution of paper? short summary of strengths and weaknesses (sentence or 2) Several paragraphs of details technical flaws? structure of paper? are key ideas brought out? dont want to just describe system, also need motivation and justification of approach presentation? (ex: undefined terms, confusing wording, unclear sections.) justification - can they say why ideas are important? comparison with other systems? Zhou, etc., Fulfillment-based fairness: a new fairness notion for multi-ap wireless hotspots, ICC 2007.这篇文章提出了一个在多AP网络中可以应用的新的公平标准。对于单AP局域网,人们对公平性的认识经历了从带宽公平到时间公平的过程。最开始大家很自然地沿用有线网的公平标准,也就是让每个用户分到同样的带宽,通常也是吞吐量。802.11协议就是想保证带宽公平。但是无线网络有自己的特点,每个用户可能有不同的物理层速率。那么带宽公平会导致非常低下的效率。比如网络中有一个用户速率非常低,别的用户速率很高,那么每个用户最后分到的吞吐量都不会超过最低速率用户的速率。然后大家开始考虑让每个用户分到同样的时间。这样速率高的用户吞吐量就大,速率低的用户吞吐量就小,相对来说更合理些。这篇文章的作者们考虑的是多AP网络,具体来说就是每个用户可能有多个可选择的AP。他们指出在这种情况下,以前的带宽公平和时间公平都会有问题。带宽公平就不用说了。时间公平因为用户可以选择AP,很可能它会选择低速连接一个AP,从而可以分得
