BDHHI Facilities Wooden Pallet Specifications Appendix B WOODEN PALLET SPECIFICATIONS 2 1 PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to standardize the wooden pallets specification that best fits the rack systems within BDHHI The requirements help ensure that all products shipped to any BDHHI facility meet the minimum specifications in order to prevent accidents reduce in house handling activities improve housekeeping and damage to product during transportation 2 SCOPE This document states the pallet specification for all vendors supplying component parts and finished product to all BDHHI facilities including product from all other facilities within BDHHI These specifications define the minimum general requirements for wooden pallets shipped to any BDHHI facilities 3 APPLICATION It is the supplier s responsibility to ensure that their product components are shipped in accordance to the pallet specifications In addition it is the supplier s responsibility to ensure their pallets comply with all applicable laws and regulations Non compliance will results in extra costs being incurred at the receiving site Therefore at any time BDHHI reserves the right to Reject and return any shipments received that do not meet this specification Charge the supplier for the cost of labor and materials for any re stacking resulting from non compliance with this specification Any shipper requiring deviation from requirements contained in this specification must receive authorization prior to shipment Packing slips of approved non conforming shipments must be noted with a full description of the deviation the name of the authorizing person and the date of authorization 4 PALLET SPECIFICATIONS BDHHI requires wooden pallets to be used for incoming components or assemblies Wooden pallets must be constructed in accordance to National Wood Pallet and Container Association specifications Pallets shall be restricted to the following criteria Pallet dimensions 40 wide x 48 depth WOODEN PALLET SPECIFICATIONS 3 Maximum gap between the top slats deck boards of the wooden pallet shall be no greater than 3 5 Pallets shall be provided with a minimum clear distance of 2 5 between top and bottom deck boards and a minimum clear distance of 28 between the runners for purposes of handling by pallet jacks or floor jacks A four way entry pallet is preferred 3 Notched runners of 1 x 3 x 48 7 Top deck boards as follows 5 middle boards of 11 16 x 3 x 40 and 2 lead boards of 11 16 x 5 x 40 5 Bottom deck boards as follows 3 middle boards of 11 16 x 3 x 40 and 2 lead boards of 11 16 x 3 x 40 Pallets shall be in good condition no broken or severely split deck boards protruding nails rotten wood etc Any deviations from the minimum requirements must be approved by the receiving location prior to delivery 5 EXHIBITS FRONT VIEW 7 Top deck boards 2 Lead board of 11 16 x 5 1 2 x 40 1 at the front and end of pallet 5 Top middle boards of 11 16 x 3 x 40 3 Runners of 1 x 3 x 48 WOODEN PALLET SPECIFICATIONS 4 SIDE VIEW Space between top deck boards no greater than 3 5 BOTTOM VIEW 5 Bottom Boards 3 Middle boards of 11 16 x 3 x 40 2 Lead end boards of 11 16 x 5 x 40 45 DEGREE PALLET VIEW 6 DEFINITION OF PALLET GRADE 1 Single runner four way pallet with opening at both opposite ends Pallet is not brand new but in good condition Pallet is build of hardwood lumber either oak or pine Runners had notches for sideway entry WOODEN PALLET SPECIFICATIONS 5 GRADE 1 FRONT VIEW GRADE 1 BOTTOM VIEW Middle boards 11 16 x 3 x 40 Single Runners Lead boards 11 16 x 5 x 40 Notched runners Detail Area 7 DEFINITION OF PALLET GRADE 2 Double runner four way pallet with opening at both opposite ends Pallet is rebuilt in order to pass through another cycle or cycles of uses Double runner gives more stability to split or cracked runner GRADE 2 FRONT VIEW GRADE 2 BOTTOM VIEW Pallets with reinforced runners Pallet with double runner reinforced WOODEN PALLET SPECIFICATIONS 6 8 REGULATORY COMPLIANCE MANDATORY COMPLIANCE PER INTERNATIONAL LAWS Wooden pallets entering into the United States must be either heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide in accordance with any global regulations Pallets must have treatment initials HT MB on the exterior of the runners A complete summary of pallet international requirements can be obtain
