合书中的人物和场景 反映了相关人物的性格 点明了不同处所的 特点 衬托了全书的主题 另一方面它们又可以独立成篇 即使脱 离原文 其哲理和意境也有很高的鉴赏价值 对联的翻译一直是个难点 其原因主要在于对联的风格在另一 种语言中难以找到对应物 但对联不是不可译的 在霍克斯和杨宪 益的两个 红楼梦 全译本中 对联的风格得到了很好的传达 本 文将要探讨的就是两位译者在对联英译中分别对其风格的把握问 题
