When I was young, my mother encouraged me to develop and keep friendship with boys in order to build strong relationships. But she told me not to risk a good friendship with a boy with the title of boyfriend. Its indeed a wise choice to stay friends with those of the opposite sex. In my opinion, even though some high school relationship might continue after graduation, the probability of them lasting much longer is so slim that there really is not a point to it. Firstly, you have to think about such a questionwhether it is possible to hurt both of you, or even hurt both of your future husbands or wives. My second point is that you still can date if you hope marriage could possibly follow. Except this, there really is not any other reason for dating. Some students desire relationships for a chance to be romantic. While these are nice to have, there are many more important things at this point in our lives. The titles of boyfriend and girlfriend put too much stress on a relationship between high school students. Just staying as common friends may be the best choice for us. I strongly recommend we should deal with it in an appropriate way and follow our teachers advice if necessary. 21. The author writes this passage probably for _ to read. A. high school studentsB. school teachersC. parents and teachersD. married couples22. Between sexes, the relationship of being good friends might be _ than that of being boy/girlfriends. A. weakerB. saferC. slimmerD. stronger23. How does the writer like the idea of dating among the students? A. Dating is a nice chance for students to be romantic. B. Studying is far more important than dating in school. C. In high school dating can surely lead to future marriage. D. Dating in high school is sure to hurt your future family. 24. The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph might refer to _ . A. the title of boyfriend or girlfriend at schoolB. advice given by both teachers and parentsC. the pressure from school lessons and sportsD. the relationship between students of opposite sexes25. What is the main idea of the passage? A. How to properly deal with the relationships among high school students. B. Making more friends in high school is good. C. Thinking about marriage in high school is unusual. D. How to properly deal with the relationships between students and teachers. (B)2011无锡模拟No budget for your vacation? Try home exchangesswapping houses with strangers. Agree to use each others cars, and you can save dollars on car rentals (租赁费), too. Home exchanges are not new. At least one group, Intervac, has been facilitating such an arrangement since 1953. But trading online is gaining popularity these days, with several sites in operation, including HomeExchanges. Founded in 1992, with some 28, 000 listings, this company bills itself as the worlds largest home exchange club, reporting that membership has increased 30% this year. The annual fee is usually less than $100. Members can access thousands of listings for apartments, villas, suburban homes and farms around the world. Initial contact is made via e-mail, with subsequent communication usually by phone. Before a match is made, potential swappers tend to discuss a lot. However, the concept may sound risky to some people. What about theft? Damage? These are reasonable causes for concern, but equally unlikely. As one swapper puts it, “Nobody is going to fly across the ocean or drive 600 miles to come to steal your TV. Besides, at the same time theyre staying in your home, you are staying in their home. ”Exchange sites recommend that swappers discuss such matters ahead of time. They may fill out an agreement spelling out who shoulders which responsibilities if a problem arises. It does not matter if the agreement would hold up in court, but it does give the exchangers a little satisfaction. Generally, the biggest complaint among home exchangers has to do with different standards of cleanliness. Swappers are supposed to make sure their home is in order before they depart, but one persons idea of “clean” may be more forgiving than anothers. Some owners say if they come back to a less-than-sparkling kitchen, it may be inconvenient but would not sour them on future exchanges. 26. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. How to exchange homes. B. How home exchange is becoming popular. C. The biggest home exchange agency Intervac. D. A contrast between Intervac and Home Exchanges. 27. Which of the following is closest in meaning to “bills” in the second paragraph? A. advertisesB. dedicatesC. replacesD. participates28. How do home exchangers normally begin their communication? A. By phone. B. By e-mail. C. Via a matchmaker. D. Via a face-to-face meeting. 29. What is recommended in the passage to deal with theft and damage concerns? A. One can file a lawsuit in court. B. Both parties can trade online. C. Both parties can sign an agreement beforehand. D. One can damage the home of the other party in return. 30. From the passage, we can infer that _ . A. home exchanges online have been popular for a long timeB. members can access all listings in the home exchange clubC. there is no need to worry about theft in this clubD. the swappers homes are always in order before their depart(C)2011嘉兴模拟You can tell a lot about people from the clothes they wear, but you can also tell a lot about people simply from the handbags they carry. Its hard to believe, but you can find out a number of things about a womans personality just by looking at the type of handbag she sports. Below you will find a number of handbag styles and colors as well as what each specific type of handbag says about the owner. Styles: Under-the ShoulderHandbags which are smaller and fit tightly underneath the shoulder indicate class and sophistication. A woman working in an upscale office or someone of high stature would choose this form of handbag. Big and BulkyBig, bulky and oversized bags are casual and are often associated with younger individuals. These are used for individuals who carry a number of things (binders, books etc) and require a lot of space. Down-to-earth, lower-maintenance women would carry this type of handbag. DesignerDesigner handbags often cost an arm and a leg and therefore are usually associated with high-maintenance females. Females who are confident and require top of the line accessories will settle for nothing less than a name-brand designer purse. Guyswatch out for these girls, they tend to be a handful. Leather with Buckles and ZippersWomen who choose leather purses with lots of buckles and zippers are leashing out their wild sides. These women tend to act before they think and are always ready for a good time. The extra buckles and zippers tend to signify a “bad girl” image. The lake, which dates back some 3. 4 billion years, appears to have covered as much as 80 square miles and is up to 1, 500 feet deep, said the team from the University of Colorado. “This is the first clear evidence of shorelines on the surface of Mars, ” said Boulders research associate, Gaetano Di Achille, in a study published in the latest edition of Geophysical Research Letters. “The identification of the shorelines and accompanying geological evidence allows us to calculate the size and volume of the lake, which appears to have formed about 3. 4 billion years ago. ”Analysis of the images has shown the water carved out the canyon (溪谷) in which it was found, which then opened out into a valley depositing (使淤积) sediment (沉积) which formed a delta (三角洲). “Finding shorelines is a great discovery to us, ” said assistant professor Brian Hynek, adding it showed the lake existed at a time when Mars was thought to have been cold and dry. Scientists believe the oldest surfaces on Mars formed during the wet and warm era known as the Noachan epoch, about 4. 1 billion to 3. 7 billion years ago. The newly discovered lake is believed to date from the Hesperian era and postdates the end of the warm and wet period on Mars by 300 million years, according to the study.
