Interview on Salt and Light TV Script片源:风密雨听写/翻译: 橙子是天才There are many groups or singers who have been described as having heavenly sound, or the voice of angels”. But as far as Im concerned, theres only one group for whom that claim is absolutely true. -Sanctus-The boys of Libera have been described as being normal and ordinary. But as the song we just heard demonstrates, the music they produce is anything but. Now Im very happy to say that to tell us a little bit about what happens to make this magic possible, Im joined by three of the group members sitting here with me is Freddie Ingles, Liam Connery and Kavana Crossley. Boys: Thank you三人:谢谢。So, the name “Libera”, where does that come from? What does it mean? LiamLiam: Libera is Latin for free. And also Libera was the first song we ever sung as Libera. Its kind of like our theme chantLiam:Libera在拉丁语中是自由的意思。 Ok. Is there anything about the music that you do that has to do with freedom or.? Liam: Well, its quite liberating to listen to. To put it in context. Good, ok. So how does it work? There are how many.how many members in the group? Freddie: about 40.Freddie: 差不多40人There are about 40主持人:有40人左右啊Kavana: Em, but like some of us are staying at home because they are too young to travel. Liam: or theyve got exams to advise for, soLiam: 或者他们要参加考试,所以(也来不了)Ok, so not all 40 are traveling主持人:哦,所以不是全部40人都来参加巡演Kavana: So there are only 24Kavana: 只有24人来了Liam: 24 or 23, thats it.Liam: Ok, and so the age range is.coz youre ten Freddie, right? Freddie: Yes.Freddie: 是的So are you the youngest? Freddie: Em, no, the youngest is 7, and I think the oldest is about 16.Freddie: Ok, so Liam youll be one of the older ones. Liam: Yeah, I think Im the second oldest on this team. And how long have you been singing with the group now? Liam: 7 years. I started when I was 8 and Ive been going through. Good! So how do you work? Do you do audition or do you. Is it like at school? Did you study music? Well its with you Liam主持人:真棒! Liam: Em, well basically theres sort of audition thing. For me when I started, one of my teachers at school for music she say you should go on audition for this choir. So I did and. So you just sing a laud, hymn or chant or something. And thats it. Right. And once youre in the group is it like at school that you have to take music lessons? Kavana: Well its like they develop you as a musician and you learn all these new things about music that you wont have been taught in an ordinary school music lessonKavana: Liam: Right, its not like a straight music lesson, theres not. Ok, so Kavana how old are you? Kavana: well Im 12 now.Kavana: 我12岁了And how long have you been with the group? Kavana: en, 5 years.Kavana: 5年了Ok, so have you study music before? Kavana: em, what they do, like my music teacher, wanted me to be in this group, and she saw that I was a good singer. And so I did sing before it but I wasnt really a good great singer until I went into the group, because they develop you as a singer, and you become a better musician. Yeah, and is it the same with you? You were doing music before you join the group. Freddie: I was playing instruments before I joined the group. But when I joined, our music teacher auditioned all the boys from year 3 to year 6.Freddie: Ok, ok, its specifically for Libera? Ok and how often do you rehearse? Is it once a week or is it every day? How does it work? Freddie: eh, we do about 10 hours a week I thinkFreddie: Liam: Really. Its not every day though, its spread across our weeks. Once at the beginning of the week, once at the end of the week and the weekend as well. Kavana: so you got all the time to do the homework and stuff. The homework is important. So Liam, since youre older, so youre.are you going to eventually, can I say graduate from t group. What happens.? 毕业?Liam: Graduate, em, you know coz you see as you grow obviously your voice changes (Yeah) so yeah like mine is a lot lower than Freddie they have. Yet you dont really changes. Its quite interesting because they always need really different voice ranges like some of our music goes really high, like you have to sing top C in Sanctus. The top C in that is really high. Liam: But there are also lower parts in other songs, like, parts for deeper voices. So . (Yeah) you never really stop, you can always carry on.Liam: Ok, so there are opportunities for older singers I guess. Its not just people who have high voices主持人:并不是只有能唱高音的孩子(才有机会)Kavana: Its like a jigsaw. If you take away some of the harmonies its like taking a piece out the jigsaw puzzles. It just wouldnt be the same. (Ok) so with everyone there and all the different ranges, its. Ok. And when you travelling, em, coz you all have the chance to travel with the group on tour to different cities around the world. That must be exciting. Is it a huge.you said only maybe 25 singers travel, but do you have a huge group of adults travel with you, and Robert the director obviously is with you. Liam: em, we have a sound crew and a lighting crew who come with us. And some shepherds to help us to make sure that we dont get lost in the airports. Yeah, thats it. But your parents dont travel with you. Ok, so they stay home. Do you have to pay at all to be part of this group or do you get paid? Or is it just the love of music? Liam: Well, its. Kavana: Its sort of like a hobby, really. Liam: Its a hobby. Its not like Liam: Kavana: Its not like a job or something. Its not like a school where there are fees. Its like something that you can lean back on. “On Monday, got to go to the choir, sing.” Ok. So its just like being in a church choir. Liam: and the tour is basically like a bonus. (Yeah) To do the whole thing. Kavana: We get to see some different countries, some different cultures and people. Its great! So when you grow up do you want to be professional singers? Or is it just something that youre doing now and maybe youll be a banker. Kavana: well when we start off, its like, its sorts of leading you in the path of music. (Yeah) And its great how you become interested in music, different types of music. So most boys I think will become good singers. But sometimes, you dont know. Ok, now Ive heard that you dont like to call yourselves a choir. Theres more a boy band. Is that fair to say, or. Liam: Its not like West Life. Liam: No. Its not a boy band, just a boy group. Yeah, ok, good. What instrument do you play, Freddie? Freddie: I play the violin, the piano and the trumpet. Youre still studying those instruments? But as a part of Libera you dont have the opportunity to play instruments. Its only strictly singing. Liam: No, we have our own, em, sort of many orchestras that come with us. Kavana: so we have like 【】sometimes. Kavana: 所以我们有时候有【】Liam: we have【】if you go onto our concerts, theres a massive precaution section. Liam: big gong and drums and everything.Liam: 大锣、鼓以及各种乐器you like the precaution? Kavana: Yes, we like the gong. Very good. Were gonna take a little break, so we can actually listen another song, watch another video. So this is Love and Mercy by Brian Wilson. 接下来是布莱恩威尔森的“爱与慈悲-Love and Mercy-So that was the group Libera performing the song Love and Mercy by Brian Wilson. Em, so you guys have.I dont know if you personally but I know the group has sung for the American President, you have done back-up for Alton John, you sung at the mass with Pope Benedict 16th at Yankee Stadium, you have all these different experiences. What do you think is so popular about the music that you do? What is behind the massive beauty that your music has? Liam: Its different. Its difference is, its not choral, but its not pop. Its like the fusion between the two. Its quite cool. Kavana: Its like we take old pieces of classical music that say, some people, some kids like our age would find oh, thats boring. 【】of these stuff. Well add our own.Well like give then like a spice of Libera. Well add our harmonies, modern beatsKavana: You like the PR, guy. “The spice of Libera. Ok, yeah I know its true and I think its obvious from listening to your music. So its just because its so unique, so different. Liam: Yeah, its not like anything people would have heard before. Yeah, its true, its true. So of all the. I guess, concerts that you have to sing or videos and recordings that you have made, cities that you have travelled to, what has been maybe the most fun thing you have done? Freddie: Em.well, I think going to the Philippines. Em, in Manila was really fun in our first concert because we were singing Bayan Ko which was a Pilipino song. And after every phrase, everyone started screaming. Oh yeah that was cool, cool, cool. So you maybe think of something else. So you obviously sing in different languages. So you spend some time I guess learning pronunciation, do you have to learn, understand what youre singing? Kavana: Like when we were singing the Pilipino song, Liam looked up from UTB, and then he saw a 【told.?】All of us have to do.Kavana: 我们每个人都必须学Liam: YeahLiam: 是的Very good. Kavana: And its great, its great to know that you can speak a little 【sniffy?】 sorts of other languagesKavana: Liam: Some asked us can you speak Pilipino. You just go #$Z%& part of the song. So Liam, for you what has been maybe one of the most fun thing you done? Liam: Well, singing Love and Mercy in front of President is really cool. Its in the Kennedy Center Honors. And not only we just sing in front of him but we met loads of other people like Robert Gennaro, Cameron Diaz. But em.also at the end of our song beach balls came down from the ceiling, like the Beach Boys. So they all came down to the audiences. Its really cool. Really nice, nice. And Kav for you? Kavana: Em, I think, I think when we were coming back from the Philippines, and there was a volcanic disaster. (Ok) And so we took a five-day detour. We took a 【third】 in our ferry, and that was so much fun coz you got to be with all your friends in the cabin. Its like an extended tour. We had a coach ride and a coach journey and finally another ferry back home. And its great because we got to stay with our friends longer. (Right) And that was just a fun experience. OK. Have you ever had like any disasters happen during the concert or.I dont mean like something bad, but. 我不是指一些糟糕的事情,而是(意外?)Kavana: Well, in the papal mass, the light in the stadium was too strong, so everyone was singing like this. Kavana: And if you look up at the UTB video, its. Ok. But youve never had like, you know, audio problems or somebody forgets the white shirt. I suppose you cant go without this, the gown. Liam: well, sometimes like the batteries in the microphone might go. But thats not really a problem because you have so many around. Kavana: And sometimes some of the light switch gets jam. So for one song when theres meant to be a change, we have to sing the song kneeling. Liam: yeah that was quite funny. We were kneeling for one song, and that was our position for that song. And we meant to have a black out so we can get into our next position but there wasnt one. The music just went straight in, so we have to do the next song kneeling as well. Yeah, oh nice. How about recording or making music videos? Coz thats whole other experience. Its fun. Its not tiring? Kavana: Its great to see like all the crew. And you get, you get to see these wonderful film sets. I mean weve been to many film sets. Liam: Its cool to see how it all works as well. Like when you watch a music video on TV all looks like so neat and normal; but then when youre on the set thats wires everywhere and people running about (yeah)【】Liam: So youre here in Canada now, youre doing what 7 concerts. (Liam:Yeah) And that should be tiring as well. Freddie, does it get tiring? All these running-around and. Freddie: Well, at the end of our tour, sometimes people are a little bit tired. Just a little bit. Liam: You got home and sleep straight away. You dont have to go right to school the next day. Kavana: But its good because we get like relaxing periods as well. Its not all sing, sing, sing. Sometimes we get free time. Liam: 7 concerts over 14 days. OK, so its not so bad. So you get into do some sight-seeing. Liam: sometimes theres concert you might get two on the same day and we get 【】 as well so there were sort of set-asides really. Kavana: Yesterday we saw a cinema movie. So its like the sort of things we will do when we h
