When students graduated, most of them became ministers or teachers. One hundred and forty-six years later, Harvard started a medical school for young men who wanted to became doctors. Later lawyers can study in Harvards law school. In 1825, besides Latin and Greek, Harvard began to teach modern languages, such as French and German. I didnt care where it went or who cleaned it up. One day two years ago, though, I started caring about it deeply. I was walking in school when I saw my classmates throwing their rubbish onto the floor. They threw paper, sweet wrappers(糖纸) and cola bottles. It turned the floor into a land of rubbish! I decided to do something about it. I started spending hours picking up the rubbish. I gave anything useful I found to my teachers. I became known as the “rubbish picker”. But after a few weeks, I realized I had to do more. I decided to make a recycling plan for my school and give it to the headmaster. He loved the plan and said I could put a rubbish box in every classroom. When these boxes became full, I would take them to the rubbish dump(垃圾场). There, workers would recycle it for me. My plan has done a lot for the school. The school gets money for every bottle that it recycles. The plan has also done a lot for the Earth. Students and teachers are now dropping less litter and have learned to use less paper. Also, every time my school recycles one ton of paper, seventeen trees are saved! My school may be helping the Earth, but I know it can do more. I have more plans. I will be seeing the headmaster again soon!1. Is the writer a student? 2. What did his classmates throw in school? 3. We knew how hard they worked and we thanked them for everything they gave us.On the other hand, my kids see me work at the computer in the comfortable home. We live in a town where most children get pretty much everything they want. Heartfelt thanks are few. So how do we make sure the kids understand the value (价值) of all that they have? Its important to explain (解释) to them why you cant buy expensive presents. Todays newspapers and TV programs seem to be calling on children to ask for everything, so it helps to discuss whats really possible and whats not. Its also necessary to show them not all presents come from a shop. For example, next holiday they can make cakes for all their friends and decorate the boxes themselves. Give older children chances to serve in kitchens, tell them about people who have nothing on cold wet nights and tell them about parts of the world where food cannot be found. Encourage (鼓励)them to give some of their pocket money to others. Give away unwanted clothes and toys to those who need them. Set time to have them write down things they are thankful for. Then they will know all they have. And teach them to say thank you for any present they receive. In the end, the most important thing is you should do everything you ask your kids to do.1. If you do not know the answer, it doesnt matter, just tell the teacher that you do not know. There is no excuse for not doing your homework. If you are absent(缺席的) , you should call your teacher or one of your classmates and ask for the assignment (作业).It is your responsibility (责任)to find out what assignment you have missed(错过). You must not be absent on a test day. If you are seriously ill, call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test .If your teacher allows (允许)make-up tests(补考), you should take the test within(在之内) one or two days after returning to class. Serious illness is the only reason for missing a test. Be on time! It is rude to be late. Also, it disturbs (打扰)other students. If you must come in late, be sure to do it quietly. Have your books and papers out of your bag before you come into the room. Then go to your seat and sit quickly. In the US, it is not necessary to knock before you enter the classroom. If you must leave during class, do so quietly. There is no need to ask the teachers permission(允许). When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. But many people do not know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it a chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault(过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame (负责), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever noticed that some people who cant read or write usually have better memories?
