文档简介
Part I Reading Comprehension (30%) Directions: There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choi By adopting a few simple techniques, parents who read to their children can greatly increase their childrens language development. It is surprising but true. How parents talk to their children makes a big difference in the childrens language development. If a parent encourages the child to actively respond to what the parent is reading, the childs language skills increase. A study was done with 30 three-year-old children and their parents. Half of the children participated in the experimental study; the other half acted as the control group. In the experimental group, the parents were given a two-hour training session in which they were taught to ask open-ended questions rather than yes-or-no questions. For example, the parent should ask, What is the doggie doing? rather than Is the doggie running away? The parents in the experimental group were also instructed in how to help children find answers, how to suggest alternative possibilities and how to praise correct answers. At the beginning of the study, the children did not differ in measures of language development, but at the end of one month, the children in the experimental group showed 5.5 months ahead of the control group on a test of verbal expression and vocabulary. Nine months later, the children in the experimental group still showed an advance of 6 months over the children in the control group. 1. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage? A Children who talk a lot are more intelligent. B Parents who listen to their children can teach them more. C Active children should read more and be given more attention. D Verbal ability can easily be developed with proper methods. 答案:D 本题考查的是考生对细节的把握。答案在第一段:“By adopting a few simple techniques, parents who read to their children can greatly increase their childrens language development(父母给孩子读书的时候,通过采用一些简单的方法可以提高孩子的语言能力。),因此可以得出这样的结论:“语言能力可以通过适当的方法来提高。”D正确 2. What does it in line 2 can most probably be replaced by? A Parents increasing childrens language development_. B Reading techniques being simple C Parents reading to children D Childrens intelligence development 答案:A 本题考查的是考生对具体词汇及结构的把握。根据上文第一句和第三句中的childrens language development部分,可以看出it指父母能提高孩子的语言能力。代词的指代内容一般应从该句的上下句中找。 3. According to the author, which of the following questions is the best type to ask children about? A Do you see the elephant? B Is the elephant in the cage? C What animals do you like? D Shall we go to the zoo? 答案:C 本题考查的是考生对细节的把握。答案在第二段:“In the experimental group, the parents were given A two-hour training session in which they were taught to ask open-ended quest-tins rather than yes-or-no questions(在进行实验的这一组里,给家长进行两小时的培训,让他们学会向孩子们提一些自由回答不能用是或不是回答的问题。)”再根据下文提问的举例可看出家长提出的最好的问题应该是:“What animals do you like?(你喜欢什么样的动物?)”C为正确答案。 4. The difference between the control group and the experimental group was_. A the training that parents received B the age of the children C tile books that were read D the number of the children 答案:A 本题考查的是考生对细节的把握。答案在第二段“In the experimental group, the parents were given a two-hour training session”(在进行实验的这一组里,给家长进行两小时的培训),文章的调查研究中把孩子及其家长分成两组,显然区别在于实验组里的家长接受了培训。 5. The best conclusion we can draw from the passage is that_. A parents should be trained to read to their children B the more children read, the more intelligent they will become C childrens language skills increase when they are required to respond actively D children who read actively seem six months older 答案:C 本题是推断题,也是考查对文章细节的把握。答案在第一段最后一句话。“If a parent encourages the child to actively respond to what the parent is reading, the childs language skills increase(如果家长鼓励孩子们对于家长给他们读的书的内容做出积极的反应,那么孩子们的语言能力就会提高。)”因此C为正确答案。 To us it seems so natural to put up an umbrella to keep the water off when it rains. But actually the umbrella was not invented as protection against rain. It was first used as a shade against the sun. Nobody knows who first invented it, but the umbrella was used in very ancient times. Probably the first to use it were the Chinese, way back in the eleventh century B.C. We know that the umbrella was also used in ancient Egypt and Babylon as a sunshade. And there was a strange thing connected with its use; it became a symbol of honor and authority. In the Far East In ancient times, the umbrella was allowed-to be used only by royal people or by those in high office. In Europe, the Greeks were the first to use the umbrella as a sunshade. And the umbrella was in common use in ancient Greece. But it is believed that the first persons in Europe to use the umbrellas as protection against the rain were the ancient Romans. During the Middle Ages, the use of the umbrella practically disappeared. Then it appeared again in Italy in 16th century. And again it became a symbol of power and authority. Umbrellas have not changed much in style during all this time, though they have become much lighter in weight. It wasnt until the twentieth century that womens umbrellas began to be made in a variety of colors. 6. The first use of umbrella was as_. A protection against rain B a shade against the sun C a symbol of power D a symbol of honor 答案:B 本题考查的是考生对细节的把握。“But actually the umbrella was not invented as protection against rainIt was first used as a shade against the sun”根据第一段最后一句话可以得知。 7. _were regarded as the people who first used umbrellas. A Romans B Greeks C Chinese D Europeans 答案:C 本题考查的是考生对具体句子的理解。“Probably the first to use it were the Chinese,”根据第二段可直接得知。 8. The umbrella was used only by royal people or those in high office_. A in European in the eighteenth century B in ancient Egypt and Babylon C in the Far East in ancient times D during the Middle Ages 答案:C 本题考查的是考生对细节的把握。“In the Far East In ancient times, the umbrella was allowed to be used only by royal people or by those in high office”根据第三段最后一句可得知。 9. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true? A Women enjoy using umbrella with varies kinds of colors B The inventor of the umbrella is unknown C Once ordinary people had no right to use umbrellas D Umbrellas were popular and cheap in the ancient times 答案:D 本题考查的是考生对全文的把握以及关键点的理解。“And there was a strange thing connected with its use;it became a symbol of honor and authorityIn the Far East In ancient times, the umbrella was allowed to be used only by royal people or by those in high office”可知,雨伞在古代曾经是权利和荣耀的象征,所以只能由皇族和高官持有,故此项不对。 10. Which of the following may be the best title for the passage? A When Was the Umbrella Invented B The Role of Umbrella in History C The Colors and Shapes of Umbrella D Who Needed Umbrella First 答案:B 本题考查的是考生对全文意思的把握。通读全文可知,文章讲雨伞的不同角色,包括遮阳,遮雨,在古代还能象征权利和荣誉,所以B能最好地概括全文,其他项都太过片面。 We use both words and gestures to express our feelings, but the problem is that these words and gestures can be understood in different ways. It is true that a smile means the same thing in any language. So does laughter or crying. There are also a number of striking similarities in the way different animals show the same feelings. Dogs, tigers and humans, for example, often show their teeth when they are angry. This is probably because they are born with those behavior patterns. Fear is another emotion that is shown in much the same way all over the world. In Chinese and in English literature, a phrase like he went pale and began to tremble suggests that the man is either very afraid or he has just got a very big shock. However, he opened his eyes wide is used to suggest anger in Chinese whereas in English it means surprise. In Chinese surprise can be described in a phrase like they stretched out their tongues! Sticking out your tongue in English is an insulting gesture or expresses strong dislike. Even in the same culture, people differ in ability to understand and express feelings. Experiments in America have shown that women are usually better than men at recognizing fear, anger, love and happiness on peoples faces. Other studies show that older people usually find it easier to recognize or understand body language than younger people do. 11. According to the passage, _. A we can hardly understand what peoples gestures mean B we can not often be sure what people mean when they describe their feelings in words or gestures C words can be better understood by older people D gestures can be understood by most of the people while words can not 12. Peoples facial expressions may be misunderstood because_. A people of different ages may have different understanding B people have different cultures C people of different sex may understand a gesture in a different way D people of different countries speak different languages 13. In the same culture_. A people have different ability to understand and express feelings B people have the same understanding of something C people never fail to understand each other D people are equally intelligent 答案:A 本题主要考查的是考生对细节的把握。答案对应最后一段,开头说“即使在相同的文化下,人们理解和表达感受的能力也会不一样。”这说明不同的文化更是这样。即A正确。 14. From this passage, we can conclude_. A words are used as frequently as gestures B words are often found difficult to understand C words and gestures are both used in expressing feelings D gestures are more efficiently used than words 答案:C 本题考查的是考生的总结能力及对文章具体细节的把握。第一段开头“We use both words and gestures to express our feelings”因此选C。文章并没有对词语和手势或姿态进行比较,所以A,B,D都不对。 15. The best title for this passage may be_. A Words and Feelings B Words, Gestures and Feelings C Gestures and Feelings D Culture and Understanding 答案:B 本题主要考查的是考生对文章主旨的把握。由文章结构分析可看出,文章主要谈到的是人们在理解肢体语言以及表情所表达的感受方面的异词,words在第一行就于gesture一起被提到了,而culture不是主要内容。 Part II Vocabulary and Structure (30%) Directions: In this part, there are 30 incomplete sentences.
