Ill put you through. 请稍候,我为您转接。hold on 等会,不要挂断(电话)e.g.The telephone operator asked the caller to hold on until the connection was made. 接线员让打电话的人等待以接通电话。Just hold on a second while I get the car out. 稍等一会儿,我把车开出来。put sb./a call through接通(电话)e.g.Put me through to London. 请为我接通伦敦的电话。With this new machinery, we can put through more calls at a time than ever before. 有了新机器,我们现在可以同时接通比以前更多的电话。3.Im calling about your position of quality management engineer. 我打电话是想询问贵公司招聘质量管理工程师之事。*position n. 职位,工作e.g.Ill apply for a position as a secretary. 我将申请秘书一职。He holds an important position in the company. 他在公司担任要职。position还可表示“处境;态度;(身体的)姿势”等含义。e.g.My financial position is quite good at the moment. 此时我的经济状况相当不错。Whats the companys position on recycling? 该公司是如何看待回收利用的?I go to sleep on my back but always wake up in a different position. 我仰面而睡,但醒来时总是另一个姿势。management n. 管理,经营e.g.She was sent on a management training scheme. 她被派去参加一个管理培训计划。The company has suffered from several years of bad management. 公司已经好几年经营不善了。management还可以表示“管理层”。e.g.Management has offered staff a 3% pay increase. 管理层同意给员工加薪3%。 4.Weve considered your qualifications. I was just about to call you. 我们考虑了您的条件。正打算给您打电话。qualification n. 资格,条件;资格证书e.g. What are the qualifications for an airline pilot? 成为一名飞机驾驶员需要具备哪些条件?Youll never get a good job if you dont have any qualifications. 如果什么资格证书都没有,就永远找不到一份好工作。be about to do something用法如下:1) 表示即将做某事。e.g.Mrs. Brown was about to begin, but Jennie spoke first. 布朗夫人正要开始讲话,珍妮先开口了。He has no idea that the police are about to arrest him. 他不知道警察马上就要来抓他。2) 其否定式在美式英语中可表示“不打算/不愿意做”。e.g.Im not about to stop when Im so close to success. 成功只有一步之遥了,我决不会罢手。3) 习惯上不与具体时间状语连用。由于本身已含有“即将”这样的时间概念,所以它习惯上不再与 soon,at once,immediately,tomorrow这样的具体时间状语连用。5.Well give you an interview. 我们想面试你一下。give sb. an interview 给某人一个面试的机会,面试某人e.g.They turned him down without giving him an interview. 他们甚至连面试的机会都没给就拒绝他了。l Step Four: Arranging an interviewA. Acquaint students with the given situation. B. Have students work with a partner to role-play the given situation.C. Invite two or three pairs of students for demonstration.D. Check answers with students. l Step Five: Application letters and repliesA. Text Lead-in: ask students to read the cartoon and explain why the candidate failed. B. Text Skimming: have students skim the text and answer the follow questions:a What position are those applicants asking for? b Are all the applicants given a job? Why?c Can you summarize the personalities of those applicants?C. Text Comprehension: ask students to read the text and then proceed to the detailed study of the text.D. After-text exercise: have students complete the exercises after the text and check the answers with students.Notes 1.I am writing in regard to employment with your firm. 我写此信意在应聘贵公司职位。*regard n. 注意,考虑,关心;尊重e.g.She rescued him without regard for herself. 她奋不顾身地救了他。The company holds her talents in the highest regard. 该公司对她的才能极其重视。in regard to 关于e.g.I have nothing to say in regard to that subject.关于那个话题,我无话可说。There are many things to ponder over in regard to this project. 关于这项工程有许多事情需要考虑。*employment n. 雇用,就业e.g.How long have you been looking for employment? 你找工作找多久了?Employment levels are likely to rise greatly by the end of this year. 年底之前,就业水平很有可能会大幅提高。employment常见搭配:offer/provide employment提供就业机会;desire employment渴望得到工作;get/find employment找到工作;hunt for/seek/look for employment 寻找工作。2.I was in charge of R&D for Harrington Company. We worked on nuclear energy. 我曾负责哈林顿公司的研发工作,主要从事核能源研究。be in charge of 主管,负责e.g.I am in charge of the company when the manager is away. 经理不在时公司由我负责。The chief engineer was in charge of the building of the subway. 总工程师负责指挥地铁的建设。nuclear a. 原子核的;核心的e.g. The presidents of the two countries are discussing the plan of nuclear disarmament. 两国元首正在就核裁军计划进行磋商。3.Several of our research discoveries have been adapted for commercial use. 我们的多项研发已被应用于商业领域。discovery n. 发现e.g.New scientific discoveries are being made every day. 每天都有新的科学发现。He made a number of important discoveries in astronomy. 他在天文学方面作出了许多重大发现。discovery的动词形式为discover。adapt sth. for 使适合于;改编e.g.They adapted the old barn for use by the club. 他们把旧谷仓改造成俱乐部活动室。This novel has already been adapted for the stage. 这本小说已被改编成剧本。commercial a. 商业的e.g.The commercial future of the company looks very promising. 这家公司的商业前景非常好。There are more breaks in programs on commercial TV. 在商业电视频道中,节目中间插播的广告更多。commercial当名词用时表示“电视或广播中的广告节目”,如:a commercial break商业广告插播时间。commercial派生自名词commerce,意思是“商业,贸易”,如:the world of commerce and industry 工商界。4.Because of a lack of orders, Harrington Company decided to shut down its R&D Department. 由于缺少订单,哈林顿公司决定关闭其研发部。shut down关闭,(使)停工e.g.We shut down all the factories during the financial crisis. 金融危机中,我们关闭了所有的工厂。The factory may shut down if supplies cease. 如果原料供应不上,工厂可能会倒闭。5.We regret to inform you that we have no positions available for someone of such excellent qualifications as you. 我们很遗憾地告知您,像您这样高资历的人,敝公司尚无职位可提供。regret表示“对表示遗憾”。e.g.I regret to tell you that we cant offer you any help. 很遗憾,我们对您爱莫能助。I regret being unable to help you. 无法帮忙,我深感遗憾。6.Thank you for thinking of us, and if anything suitable comes up in the future, we will get in touch with you. 感谢您考虑我们公司,以后如有合适机会,我们将会与您联系。come up 出现,发生e.g.Ive been looking for a new job for ages, but nothing suitable has come up yet. 我找了很长时间工作,但至今仍未找到合适的。We shall write to you if a vacancy comes up. 如有空缺,我们将写信给您。7.Sometimes I come up with some moneymaking ideas. 时而我会冒出一些赚钱的金点子。come up with 提出,想出 注意,该短语不能用于被动形式。e.g.I hope you can come up with a better plan than this. 我希望你能想出一个比这更好的计划。Hes come up with a great idea. 他想出了一个了不起的主意。8.I would be willing to start off at a low salary to prove my value to your firm. 我愿意从低工资开始做起,逐步证明我对贵公司的价值。start off(使)开始e.g.What made you start off on house-hunting at this time of last year? 究竟是什么事促使你在去年的这个时候开始找房子的呢?His father started him off in business. 他父亲开始让他做生意。注意salary、wage和pay的区别:salary一般指付给医生、教师、银行职员、企业经理的月薪,通常打入个人银行账户;wage是付给体力劳动者的现金,一般按小时、天、周来计算;pay泛指所得到的报酬,为不可数名词。9.Frankly you are overqualified, and your experience means you would be much happier with a company that could make full use of your talents. 坦率地讲,您“资历过高”了。您的经验可以使您在一家能充分发挥您才干的公司工作,这样会使您更为愉快。much是程度副词,修饰比较级表示强调。e.g.Youll be much more comfortable if you come and sit over here. 如果你到这里坐一会儿,会感觉舒服很多。Ive been feeling much happier since I became a teacher. 自从当了老师后,我的心情愉快多了。10.I can do anything you want me to. 你们叫我做什么,我就做什么。本句中you want me to是省略了关系代词that的定语从句,修饰先行词anything。为避免动词的重复,在不定式后省略了动词do.11.You name it and Tony will do it. 只要你们想得到的,我都能做。you name it 凡是你能想到的此句为非正式用语,意思是“凡是你想起的,我都会做。”e.g.She can make anything: chairs, tables, cupboards you name it. 她什么都会做:椅子、桌子、壁橱,凡你想得起的没有她不会做的。12.I aint got no education and no experience, but Im strong and I get along great with people. 我没上过多少学,也没什么经验,但我有力气,也容易相处。本句所表达的意思应为“I havent got any education or experience, but Im strong and get along well with people”。原句故意如此表达,为的是使语言更贴近这位求职者声称的未受教育的背景。13.Welcome aboard. 欢迎加盟。*aboard ad. 在/到(船、飞机、公共汽车或火车上)e.g.The flight attendant welcomed us aboard the plane. 空姐欢迎我们登机。The trains about to leave. All aboard! 火车马上就要开了。全体上车!注意,在欢迎新成员加入某组织、机构或公司时,经常用“welcome aboard”这句话。l Step Six: Completing a CVA. Show students some CV samples and explain the names and functions of each part, such as personal information, education background, career objective, working experience etc.B. Have students complete the given CV according to the Chinese prompts.C. Check answers with students.D. Make a conclusion of the writing format for a CV.l Step Seven: Read me!A. Have students listen and repeat the sentence they hear.B. Explain to students the stress and intonation. C. Ask students to re-read the sentences and draw their attention to the sentences stress.D. Have some students read the sentences to the class to check whether they have a good command of that.Section Two: Job Interview面试A. Have students choose interview tips from the box.C. Re-play the tape or CD to better their understanding of the dialogue.Notes 1.Please take a seat. 请坐。take a seat 请坐 这是sit down的另外一种说法,也可以说have a seat,说话方一般为较有权威的一方。还可以说be seated。2. and I studied there for 3 years, majoring in marketing. 我在那里学习了三年,我的专业是市场营销。major in 主修e.g.I majored in fashion design at college. 大学时我学的是时装设计。 3.I work in a small company where further promotion is impossible, so Ive decided to make a change. 我在一家小公司工作,升职无望,所以我决定换一份工作。*impossible a. 不可能的,办不到的e.g.He made it impossible for me to say no. 他令我无法拒绝。impossible常用结构:It is/seems impossible to do sth./thate.g.It seems impossible to find a good tailor these days. 如今要找到一个好裁缝似乎不大可能。It seems impossible that I could have walked by and not noticed her. 我不太可能从她身边走过而没有注意到她。impossible还可表示“难以解决的”。e.g.Its an impossible situation shes going to leave him but she cant bear losing her children. 这是个两难的境地她要离开他,但却忍受不了失去孩子。l Step Three: How much to make it A. Before listening, write “2,000,000,000+2,000,000,000=?”on the blackboard.B. Have students listen to the story and write down the answers given by the first interviewees.C. Stop playing the tape or CD before the first interviewee offers the answer and ask students to have a guess of the answer.D. Then continue with the tape or CD to check the answer with students. E. Have students listen to the tape or CD and answer the given questions. F. Check answers with students.G.
